1.2MB External Drive (250-1087) EXTFMT Faxback Doc. # 5339 THE EXTFMT COMMAND The syntax for the extfmt command is: extfmt drive: [options] where: drive: specifies the drive (a:, b:, c:, and so on) in which you want to for- mat a diskette. [options] tells how to format the diskette. The square brackets indicate that none of the options is required. The options are: /360 creates a 360 KB diskette. /1.2 creates a 1.2 MB diskette. If you do not specify /360 or 1.2, the 1.2 MB drive automatically uses the default (1.2 MB) format. /h formats the diskette currently in the drive. When you use this option, the extfmt command does not prompt for a new diskette as it normally does. /n performs the format but does not verify the format afterward. /q quickly formats the diskette by clearing the root directory. The /q option always formats the diskette to its original format. /s copies the operating system files to the diskette to make it a system (bootable) diskette. /v prompts for a volume label after formatting the diskette. Examples To format a 1.2 MB system diskette in Drive D, type: extfmt d:/s and press [ENTER]. Extfmt prompts for the diskette to format, copies the system files, and verifies the format. Be sure to use a high-density disk- ette. To format a high-density diskette to a 360 KB format in Drive D, type: extfmt d:360 and press [ENTER]. (css 07/30/93)
