1.44MB Floppy Drive (250-4053) Installation Faxback Doc. # 5365 To prepare the computer: Because static electricity can destroy integrated circuits, be sure to discharge any accumulated electricity by touching a grounded metal object before you touch the drive or any of the computer's PC boards. 1. Be sure that the system's power and power to all the system's peripheral devices (monitor, printer, modem, and so on) is off. 2. Unplug the system's power cord from the wall. 3. Disconnect the system's peripheral devices. 4. Remove the system's cover. To prepare the drive: Do the following before you install the diskette drive. 1. Snap the eject button cap onto the eject button tab. 2. Bend the yellow indicator down until it touches the PC board. (This keeps it from bending in the wrong direction during installation.) 3. Set the drive designation switch to A, B, C, or D. This will be the new diskette drive letter designation that you see at your system prompt. (Do not choose A if your primary drive is already A, or C if your hard drive is already C, and so on.) Mounting and Connections Do the following to mount the diskette drive into your computer. 1. Remove the drive mounting bracket from the computer's drive platform by removing the two screws that hold the front of the bracket in place. Slide the bracket backward to remove it. 2. Insert the diskette drive into the bracket. (Be sure that the front of the drive is at the front of the bracket, on the same side as the screw tabs.) 3. Align the drive's mounting holes with the two holes marked F on the mounting bracket. Insert a screw in each hole. 4. Insert a screw into the opposite side of the mounting bracket. Choose the hole that corresponds with the rear hole marked F. 5. Locate the drive ribbon cable that connects the main logic board and the factory-installed disk drive. Connect this ribbon cable's second connector to the 34-pin connector on the back of the new drive. (The connector is keyed so that it connects to your drive only one way.) 6. Slide the bracket assembly back onto the drive platform, making sure it locks in place. 7. Fasten the bracket assembly by replacing the two mounting screws. Completing the Installation After you check all the connections, be sure all screws are tightened and then: 1. Replace the cover. 2. Reconnect the peripheral cables and the power cord. Note: Be sure to run SETUP to tell the system about the new drive. See your computer's installation and operation manual for instructions. (css 08/02/93)
