202 MB SCSI Hard Drive (25-4164) Initialization Faxback Doc. # 5425 After you install the drive run the Setup program for your computer. Select either SCSI or NONE as the hard drive type. Before you can use this hard drive, you must initialize it by creating one or more partitions. Then, you must format each partition of the drive to prepare it to store and access the operating system and other files. NOTE: Do not use the MS-DOS hsect command to low-level format the drive. Follow these steps to initialize the drive if you are using MS-DOS: 1. After you start up the system from the MS-DOS operating system diskettes, use the fdisk command partition the hard drive. (If you are using another operating system, refer to your operating system documentation for information about formatting disks.) NOTE: Some versions of fdisk equate 1M with 1,000,000; others equate 1M with 1,024,576. Fdisk reports a capacity of less than 202 MB if it uses the 1,024,576 value. Regardless, the capacity of the drive is 202 MB. 2. Use the format command to format each partition. Format the active partition with the /s switch (format c:/s) to copy the MS-DOS system files to the partition and make it bootable. 3. Use the copy command to copy the remaining files from: * Operating system diskette(s) * The Utilities diskette(s) 4. Remove the diskette from Drive A, and reset the computer to start up from the hard drive. Refer to your MS-DOS documentation for specific information about the fdisk, format, and copy commands.
