Vianet Board (260-1220) Installation Faxback Doc. # 5463 1. Disconnect the power cords to the Computers and Active Hubs before connecting any cables to hubs, or computers. 2. Set the 8 S1 address DIP switches on the ARCNET Data Link Board to a unique address of 1-255 (decimal). The address is set in binary using each switch to represent a digit in the 8 bit binary number. A DIP switch set to closed or on equals bit off or binary "0". A DIP switch set to open or off equals bit on or binary "1". An address of 00000000 (all 8 address DIP switches set to 0) is illegal. BE SURE TO RECORD THE ADDRESS DIP SWITCH SETTINGS FOR EACH COMPUTER. ALSO, BE SURE THAT EACH ARCNET DATA LINK BOARD IN THE SYSTEM HAS A UNIQUE SETTING OF THE DIP SWITCHES. 3. Install the ARCNET Data Link Board in an empty slot of the Model 2000. 4. Plug one end of the coaxial cable into the ARCNET Data Link Board and turn the connector clockwise until it is secured. Plug the other end into a hub, observing the following parameters: * When directly connected with a Passive Hub, the total cable length be- tween any Computer and any other Computer or an Active Hub cannot exceed 200'. * Two or more Passive Hubs cannot be connected in series. * A Terminator (93-ohm) must be inserted in each unused connector of a Passive Hub. * When used with an Active Hub, the total cable length between a Computer or an Active Hub can be up to 2000'. 5. Carefully look over your work. Be sure all the boards are firmly seated in the Computer and all cables are properly connected. 6. Reconnect the power cords. * * * * * CAUTION * * * * * If the Active Hub is used, it (and all other computer equipment) must be plugged into a grounded (3-wire) outlet or, if one is not available, a ground adapter or an approved power strip. 7. Refer to your System documentation for information on how to bring your Computer up on the network. NOTES: The ARCNET 2000 Data Link Board uses one hardware interrupt vector: Interrupt Vector Number = 075H The ARCNET 2000 Data Link Board also has 2K of on board RAM: Memory Segment Address = 0F700H Memory offset = 0 thru 07FFH I/O Ports Used = 400-40FH (DKH/jlc-03/28/94)
