60 MB Tape Drive (250-4079) Hints Faxback Doc. # 5586 ADDENDUM for 900-2406 DATA CABLE Compatibility testing by Radio Shack has indicated that the 900-2406 Data Cable is required for internal or external tape drive installations. Tandy 2500XL Grid 286-MFP 3000NL 386SX-MFP 4000SX 386SX-MFP-20 4016DX 386is SCO XENIX (250-5200) RECEIVING JTAPE ERROR 82 & 124 With SCO Xenix release 2.2.4 (250-5200), or 2.3.2GT (250-5203), using the tar command to make a backup to the 60meg Tape Driver (250-4079), Jtape error 82 and 124 were recently received. For error 82 the 250-4079 manual says: "The tape drive detected the end of the tape before the process was completed. Clean the tape drive read/write heads as explained in the Hard- ware Installation section of Chapter 2 and try the operation again. If it still fails, the data is probably not recoverable." There is not a reference to error number 124 in the manual. However, the recommended way to correct the errors is to turn the append option off for the tape drive with this command at the root prompt: jtape append off The error was caused by the fact the there was data on the tape when the tar command was invoked. (MS-DOS 4.01 The 60MB Tape Backup is shipped with tape software version 2.08. This soft- ware is MS-DOS 3.3 compatible. In order for customers to use the 60MB Tape Backup on a system with MS-DOS 4.01 the customer must have the correct version of the tape software. For systems with smart,mfm or rll hard drives with MS-DOS 4.01 installed customers need version 2.44 tape software. For systems with scsi hard drives with MS-DOS 4.01 installed customers need version 2.38 tape software. This software can be acquired directly from Colorado Memory Systems at 303-669-8000. The Radio Shack stores will order it from us (MS-DOS will have Reddy ICST it to the store). Tape software versions 2.44 and 2.38 have been beta tested with MS-DOS 5.0, no problems were found.
