Vianet Board (260-1221) Installation Faxback Doc. # 5605 This procedure copies new CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files to the root directory of your hard disk. If you wish, save or rename any existing CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files before you continue. (Refer to your DOS manual for details.) Later, you can customize the new files to meet your specific needs. To install the network software on your hard disk, follow this procedure: 1. Start up your hard-disk computer. 2. With your DOS diskette in Drive A, copy the ANSI.SYS file from your DOS diskette onto your hard disk by typing: COPY A:ANSI.SYS C:\ NOTE: Be sure to use the correct DOS diskette for your computer. 3. When the copy procedure is complete, remove the DOS diskette. Insert the ViaNet diskette in Drive A, and change to Drive A by typing: A: 4. Execute the install procedure by entering: INSTALHD NOTE: Be sure to use the correct ViaNet Install diskette for your computer. 5. When the installation is complete, remove the ViaNet Install diskette from Drive A, and restart the computer under hard disk control. Put the Install diskette away for safe keeping. use it again only if you ever need to re-install the network on this particular drive. NOTE: You cannot use the Install diskette to install the network on another hard disk. Doing so results in duplicate serial numbers. BUILDING THE NETWORK BOOT DISKETTE (FLOPPY DISK DRIVES) For machines with only floppy disk drives, you need to build a boot diskette. To build a boot diskette, you can use a computer with a hard disk or a computer with two floppy disk drives. Follow these steps to build a boot diskette for each computer in the network. 1. Format a floppy diskette with the /S option for the TARGET computer. (Refer to your computer's operating system manual for instructions.) FORMAT A:/S 2. Copy the ANSI.SYS file from the appropriate DOS diskette to the newly formatted (boot) diskette. COPY ANSI.SYS A: NOTE: Be sure to format the diskette with the correct DOS for the target computer. Also, be sure to copy the correct ANSI.SYS file for that DOS. USING A HARD DISK 1. Start up a hard disk system. Be sure to use a Tandy 2000 HD to build a Tandy 2000 boot diskette. Otherwise, you can use any hard disk system. 2. Insert the ViaNet Install diskette for the target computer in Drive A of the hard disk system, and type: A: CD \ INSTALFD NOTE: Be sure to use the correct ViaNet Install diskette for the target computer. 3. When the INSTALFD.BAT procedure is complete, replace the Install diskette with the newly formatted (boot) diskette. Then, type: C: CD \ NETINST 4. When the NETINST.BAT procedure is complete, remove the diskette from Drive A, and label it as your network boot diskette. This diskette is now ready for booting ViaNet on the target computer. NOTE: You cannot use the Install diskette to build more than one net- work boot diskette. Doing so results in duplicate serial numbers. USING TWO FLOPPY DISK DRIVES 1. Insert the newly formatted (boot) diskette into Drive A, and start up the computer. Be sure to use a Tandy 2000 to build a Tandy 2000 to build up a Tandy 2000 boot diskette. Otherwise you can use any two-drive system. 2. Insert the ViaNet Install diskette in Drive B, and type: B: CD \ FLOPPY 3. When the FLOPPY.BAT procedure finishes, remove the diskette from Drive A and label it as your network boot diskette. This diskette is now ready for booting ViaNet on the target computer. NOTE: You cannot use the Install diskette to build more than one network boot diskette. Doing so results in duplicate serial numbers. (DTC/jlc-03/28/94)
