Parallel Port Kit (260-2903) Hints and Tips Faxback Doc. # 5712 Send data from your computer to the remote printer or sharing device. If the data transmission seems unstable or even fails to work, the computer, printer, or sharing device may not supply enough power to properly operate the extension kit. If this appears to be the case, connect an AC adapter (such as Radio Shack 273-1650, not supplied) to the DC 3-6v jack on the transmitter, rather than the receiver, at the first trail. Then try connecting the AC adapter to the receiver's DC 3-6v jack. CAUTION: If you use an adapter, you must use an adapter that supplies 3-6 volts DC power and delivers at least 100 milliamps. Its plug's center tip must be set to negative and properly fit the DC 3-6v jack. Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications could damage the extension kit. OPERATING TIPS To maintain a safe operating environment and ensure stable data transmission, follow these guidelines: -Use the extension kit indoors only. -To avoid damage caused by an abnormal potential difference between the transmitter and receiver, all units in the system (the extension kit, computer and printer) must have a well-grounded common power system. -Do not unplug or plug the connectors after the printer is powered up, or the receiver will pick up unnecessary "garbage" characters. This action could also damage the printer and/or receiver. -The transmitter cannot detect a BUSY signal unless the cables are properly connected and the receiver is attached to a printer or sharing device that is powered on. Otherwise, the computer will send the data continuously, although nothing will be printed out. (smc-11/05/93)
