DMP 205 (260-2904) Running a Self Test Faxback Doc. # 5736 To check the printer's operation and print quality, we recommend you run the printer's self test before you turn on your computer and send any print jobs to the printer. The self test has two modes: black test print or seven-color test print. Perform the self test according to the ribbon cassette you use. NOTES: -The self test prints lines that are 8 inches long, so you must use 8 1/2-inch wide paper to protect the platen. -Do not perform the color self test when you use the black ribbon. This could shorten the life of the black ribbon. Follow these steps to run the self test. 1. Check which type of ribbon is in the printer: The standard black ribbon cassette or the optional seven-color ribbon cassette. 2. Load 8 1/2 inch-wide paper. 3. Set POWER to OFF. 4. Begin the test print as follows. -STANDARD BLACK TEST PRINT: Press and hold down LF/FF while you set POWER to ON. When printing begins, release LF/FF. -OPTIONAL SEVEN-COLOR TEST PRINT: Press and hold down PARK while you set POWER to ON. when printing begins, release PARK. In each test, the printer repeatedly prints the 96 ASCII characters alternately in draft and letter-quality (LQ) modes. 5. To pause the self test, press ON/OFF LINE. To end the self test, turn off the printer. (smc-12/06/93) ¶
