UPS 300 (260-0251) Installation Faxback Doc. # 5747 Remove your UPS 300 from its box and inspect it for shipping damage. Do not operate the unit if it appears damaged. Instead, contact your local Radio Shack store immediately. The UPS 300 has environmental requirements similar to other computer and office equipment. This product is designed for indoor use only, in areas where it will not be exposed to excessive dust, moisture, or corrosive fumes. Be sure there is adequate air flow around the unit. Do not place objects on top of, or near, the unit which could obstruct the air vents. SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS WARNING - ELECTRIC SHOCK HAZARD The UPS 300 has its own power source (battery) and the outlets on the back can be live even when the UPS 300 is not connected to an AC Power Source. This unit contains voltage s that are hazardous. For safe and reliable operation, please observe the following: 1. Do not attempt to disassemble the UPS 300. All repairs should be performed by trained service personnel. 2. Do not power the UPS 300 from a receptacle other than a two-pole, three-wire ground outlet. 3. Do not allow water or any foreign object to get inside the unit. 4. To avoid overheating, do not place the UPS 300 in direct sunlight or near heat-generating appliances. 5. This unit was designed and tested for use with equipment having a switch-mode power supply such as that used in personal computers. The output waveform is nonindustrial. Use with other appliances could result in overheating or possible safety hazard. INSTALLATION PROCEDURE 1. Be sure the front panel Output Power switch if OFF. Plug the UPS 300 line cord into a grounded wall outlet. NOTE: The UPS 300 is shipped from the factory with the battery fully charged; but it may lose some charge during shipping and storage. We recommend that you charge the battery for four hours prior to use. The UPS 300 can be used immediately after unpacking it, but it may not provide the fully rated backup time until the battery is fully charged. The battery will charge with the Output Power switch in either the ON or OFF position. 2. Connect the equipment to be protected to the rear panel receptacles of the UPS 300. 3. Turn on the Output Power switch. After a short delay, the Output Power LED (green LED) will come on. The unit is now ready to back up your system. This LED will be on whenever there is voltage present at the output receptacles, whether from the AC power line or the inverter. When operating on inverter, this LED will be flashing. Power is now available at the output receptacles. Turn on all of the connected equipment. 4. You can use the UPS 300 Output Power switch as your system ON/OFF switch. You do not need to turn OFF each piece of equipment individually. (smc-12/22/93)
