NOTE:

If a customer receivers the wrong size media with this Faxmodem, they can
order the proper size for Smith Micro directly.  If it is within 30 days
of purchase and they send proof of purchase, with $10.00 to the same
address as the software registration form, Smith Micro will provide the
right size diskette.  The software registration form is included with the
25-3027B Faxmodem.

Your Faxmodem's features include:

HAYES COMPATIBILITY  Lets you use a wide variety of software to
                     automatically control your Faxmodem's settings.

DATA COMPRESSION  So you can send and receive data at up to 2400 bps with
                  a throughput of up to 9600 bps and faxes at 9600 and
                  4800 bps respectively.

PULSE (ROTARY) OR TOUCH TONE DIALING  Lets you Faxmodem dial on any
                                      telephone line.

HOW YOUR FAXMODEM REALLY WORKS

You really do not need to know this information to begin using your
Faxmodem.  But, a quick explanation about how your Faxmodem works might
make you more comfortable in using this device.

First a modem by itself is useless.  You must also have communications or
fax software such as the program provided in this package that converts
what you type into information the Faxmodem understands.  Don't worry.
This software is easy to use.  It prompts you for information it needs,
such as the telephone number to dial the telephone number and connect to
the computer service at the other end.

Imagine a telephone operator inside your computer that takes the
information you specify, and then sets the proper switches to dail and
connect.  When the connection is established, the imaginary operator
throws one last imaginary switch that causes your Faxmodem to begin
communicating with the other computer.

Technically speaking, your Faxmodem switches from the command (or modem
program) mode to the communications (or data transfer) mode.  Of course,
for all of this to work, you must tell you computer to call another
computer that has a Faxmodem connected.

Now your communications software takes on a new job.  It displays
everything that your Faxmodem receives from the system that you called,
and sends everything that you type to the modem.  The Faxmodem then
transmits this information to the other computer.  Your communication
software can also send and receive entire files.

A Faxmodem lets you sit down at your computer and communicate with
literally thousands of other computers, all across the country.  Many
online services provide such diverse services as news retrieval, stock
market reports, home shopping, and technical and social discussion forums.
