2400/9600 BPS Faxmodem (250-3027B) Installation Faxback Doc. # 5753 Before you install any boards in your computer, be sure to disconnect all power and interface cables from the computer and move your computer to a static-free work area. Then discharge any static buildup by touching a grounded metal object. Never power your computer when you have removed its case or when you insert or remove option boards. 1. Remove the screws that secure the computer's case and slide off the cover to open the computer. Consult your computer owner's manual for details. Save these screws. 2. Select the expansion slot into which you want to install the modem. Your modem card fits in either half or full-card slots. 3. Remove the slot cover on the back of the computer case by removing its holding screw and lifting out the cover. 4. Press the modem into the expansion slot. Secure the modem using the same screw you removed in Step 3. 5. Replace the computer case and secure it with the same screws you removed in Step 1. 6. Connect all interface cables for other peripherals. Then reconnect your computer's power cable. 7. Connect one end of the modular phone cable to the modem's LINE jack on the back of the modem. 8. Connect the other end of the modular phone cable to a modular telephone jack. NOTES: You can connect a standard telephone to the modem's PHONE jack on the back of the modem. We provided this jack for your convenience so you can continue to use your telephone normally. As long as you leave your modem and telephone connected, you can continue to use your telephone, even when you turn off the computer. The telephone company can charge you for the installation of necessary jacks. The telephone company will ask you the U.S.O.C. number of the jack to be installed. This number is RJ11C. (smc-12/10/93)
