2400 BPS Pocket FaxModem (250-3105) Quick Start Faxback Doc. # 5768 This document is intended to get you up and running quickly if you have a personal computer and you're already familiar with modems. If you're not, please skip this section and read "Connecting the FaxModem" and "Getting Ready to Communicate." 1. To supply power to the faxmodem, use either the power cube provided or a 9 volt battery (preferably alkaline). If your faxmodem is connected to a 25-pin D connector on a PC-compatible computer, you may be able to power the faxmodem from the computer, without the need for a battery or a power cube. 2. Attach the faxmodem to your computer using a shielded cable with a 25-pin male connector on one end and a connector for your computer's serial port on the other end. If you have an IBM PC or compatible, any modem cable that fits your PC should work. If your computer has a 25-pin male D connector serial port, you can connect the faxmodem to the computer without any cable at all, and the faxmodem will function properly when connected in this manner. However, it is strongly recommended that you use a cable, because accidental physical pressure applied to the faxmodem while it is attached to the computer may seriously damage the faxmodem or the computer's serial port. 3. Connect the faxmodem's phone cord between your telephone wall jack and either faxmodem phone jack. If you'd like, plug a phone into the other modular jack on the faxmodem. 4. Set up your modem and fax software according to the instructions in SETUP. (smc-12/28/93)
