Fax Modem (250-3581) Installation Faxback Doc. # 5784 To Install modem: Remove modem strip. Remove modem cover screw. Pull the modem cover to the left. Remove the washer from modem cover. Install modem in the exposed empty compartment and connect the connector. Cover back the modem cover. CONTACTING THE TELEPHONE COMPANY The interface between your modem and the telephone line is equivalent to a standard telephone interfacing to the telephone line. Before using your modem, inform the local telephone company: That you will be connecting a modem to the telephone line. Of the telephone number of the line connected to your modem. Of the modem's FCC registration number. Of the modem's ringer equivalence number. The FCC registration number and ringer equivalence number are on the top of the modem. NOTE: You must also inform the telephone company when your remove the modem from the telephone line. If you experience telephone-line trouble after installing your modem, disconnect it from the telephone line. The telephone company is not responsible for disturbances caused by non-telephone company equipment. INSTALLING BITCOM Make a backup copy of your BitCom Program Disk. You can use the DOS command "DISKCOPY" to backup and then use the copy one to install BitCom. BitCom is installed with BitFax for DOS. To install BitCom: 1. Insert your program disk into Drive A or Drive B. 2. Type A: \INSTALL. 3. Follow the instructions that appear on screen. NOTE: If you do not let the install program modify your AUTOEXEC.BAT file, you must add the following lines to the file: SET BITCOM=C:\BITCOM You must also include BitCom's directory at the end of your PATH statement, for example: SET PATH=C:\DOS;C:\BITCOM GETTING HELP BitCom provides on-screen reference for most menus. Press F1 (or Alt-F1 for some screens) to open a Help screen. ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTATION The BitCom disk contains the additional instruction guides SCRIPT.TXT, EMULATE.TXT, PARAM.TXT, and REFER.TXT. The file SCRIPT.TXT explains how to use BitCom's Script and Action files. The file PARAM.TXT explains how to edit and create your own emulation files.
