60 MB Tape Drive (250-4079A) Trouble Shooting Faxback Doc. # 5851 TROUBLESHOOTING REFERENCE This section addresses some of the common and easily corrected problems that can arise with the backup system. Find the problem you are experiencing in all-caps and follow the suggested remedies one at a time in the order presented. Check off the remedies you try. If the problem persists, call your dealer or support organization for assistance. AFTER INSTALLATION, THE TAPE DRIVE DOES NOT OPERATE PROPERLY OR IS NOT RECOGNIZED BY THE SOFTWARE. * Check all cables for proper location and good connection, referring to the appropriate hardware guide. * Reinstall the backup system software making sure to answer all questions correctly. BACKUP SYSTEM HALTS OR COMMUNICATION ERROR OCCURS. * Your computer may not support concurrent DMA operation. Set the tape soft- ware to NON-concurrent DMA mode on the Software Setups screen as explained in the Hardware Installation section of Chapter 2. EXCESSIVE RETRIES DURING TAPE OPERATIONS. * Clean the tape drive read/write head with a cleaning cartridge or 90% iso- propyl alcohol & a sponge-tipped swab as explained in the Hardware Instal- lation section of Chapter 2. * Format the problem tape, or use a new tape and try the operation again. * Your computer may not support concurrent DMA operation. Set the tape soft- ware to NON-concurrent DMA mode on the Software Setups screen as explained in the Hardware Installation section of Chapter 2.
