RUNNING A SELF-TEST:

To check the printer's operation and print quality, we recommend you run
the self-test before connecting it to your computer.

1)  Load standard, 8 1/2 inch-wide paper.

CAUTION:  The self-test prints lines that are 8 inches long.  You must use
          8 1/2 -inch wide paper to protect the platen.

2)  Set POWER to OFF.

3)  Press and hold down LF/FF while you set POWER to ON.  When printing
    begins, release LF/FF.

The printer will repeatedly print the 96 ASCII characters; alternating
between the Draft and LQ (letter-quality) modes.

4)  To end the self-test, press ON/OFF LINE or turn off the printer.
