BPS-250 (260-0250) Installation Procedure Faxback Doc. #5870 CAUTION: Be sure to plug any additional surge suppressors directly into the wall outlet. Plug the BPS-250 into the last surge suppressor Some surge suppressors might react to the BPS-250 output (Square wave) by causing an overload. This could cause a fuse to blow in the BPS- -250. 1. Being sure that the Output Power rocker switch is in the OFF position plug the power cord into a live grounded outlet. Verify that the system equipment to be plugged into the BPS-250 requires less than 2.2 amps total current by adding up the power requirements stated on the back of each piece of equipment. CAUTION: Do not exceed 250 Watts, that is 2.2 amperes at 115 volts and 60Hz. Overloading the BPS-250 can cause it to either go into current limit mode (and may cause the output voltage to decrease to a level where the equipment will not operate properly) or blow the fuse in the BPS -250. 2. With the Output Power Switch in the OFF position, plug your system equipment into the outlets on the rear of the unit. The BPS-250 is ideal to disk drive and monitor). With only these units plugged into the BPS- 250, the maximum computer system (including backup power run time (approximately 15 minutes with a fully charged battery and a 187W load) is available so that you can perform an orderly system shut-down. CAUTION: Do not connect a printer to the BPS-250. Printers draw much more power when printing than when idling and, in combination with other equipment, can overload the BPS-250 and cause it either to go into current limit mode (and may cause the output voltage to decrease to a level where the plugged in equipment will not operate properly), or blow the fuse in the BPS-250. 3. Place the Output Power switch in the ON position. After one or two seconds, the amber light in the switch comes on, indicating that power is available for your system equipment at the BPS-250 is now ready for your next power transient or outage. NOTE: After installation, full battery backup power is available only after the battery charges for a maximum of six hours without significant use. WARNING: With the battery in a charged state and the Output Power Switch in the ON position, the BPS-250 can deliver the rated voltage to each of the outlets on the back of the unit, regardless of whether or not the unit is plugged into a live grounded power line. 4. Disconnect the input power cord from the grounded input line socket after fully charging the battery. The audible alarm should sound within ten seconds, while equipment plugged into the BPS-250 should continue to function normally. 5. Reconnect the AC input power line cord to a live grounded input line socket.. After two or three seconds the audio alarm shuts off, indicating that unit has switched back to AC line power. The brief delay is to prevent "ratcheting," or rapid switching back and forth between the battery backup and the line power. (jlc-10/11/93)
