Keep these materials and reinstall them if you ever need to ship your WP-100. NOTE: Install the printwheel as explained in the section, "Replacing Accessories." WP-100 SETUP NOTE: If this is the first time that you have used this Wordprocessor, be sure to remove all of the packing materials, as described in the "Unpacking Instructions." 1. Open the cord compartment cover and take out the power cord. 2. Fit the power cord through the slot on the cord compartment and close the cover. 3. Lift the display and adjust the display angle. There are four stop positions. 4. Raise the paper support panel. TURNING ON THE WP-100 1. Plug the power cord into a 120 Volt, 60 Hz outlet. 2. Turn on the Wordprocessor's power switch. The printhead moves to the preset left margin. The Menu screen appears on the display following the copyright notice. 3. Adjust the contrast to the desired level. PAPER IN/PAPER OUT To insert paper: 1. Insert a sheet of paper behind the platen, using the paper guide for alignment. 2. Lift the paper bail away from the platen. 3. Press [PAPER IN]. The WP-100 inserts the paper automatically and positions it 1 inch from the top of the paper. 4. Pull the paper release lever to straighten the paper, if necessary. 5. Be sure to return the paper bail and the paper release lever to the original position before typing. To eject paper: Press [CODE] + [PAPER IN] (PAPER OUT). The paper is ejected automatically. KEY OPERATIONS To type characters and operate features, there are three methods of key operation as follows. [S]--Just press the key to type the character "S." [ALT] + [S]--Press the key while holding down the ALT key to activate the Spell Doc function. (Use the [ALT] key along with any key that has a special black label to indicate a function.) [CODE] + [S]--Press the key while holding down the CODE key to activate the Spell Wd function. (Use the [CODE] key along with any key that has a special blue label to indicate a function.) TURNING OFF THE WP-100 When you finish typing, decide if you want to keep a file for future use. If so, refer to the "Diskette Operations" chapter to find out how to store text to a diskette. If you DO NOT save your file, it will be lost when you turn off the WP-100. CAUTION: Do not remove the diskette or turn off the WP-100 while the disk drive is running. It might damage the contents of the diskette or the mechanism of the disk drive. When disk operations are complete, turn off the WP-100. BASIC OPERATIONS IN TEXT MEMORY TYPING TEXT 1. When you turn on the power, the Menu screen (shown below) appears on the display, following the copyright notice. The printhead moves to the preset left margin position (column 10). 2. Press 1. The Text screen appears. The ruler scale corresponds to the scale on the paper bail, showing you the actual position on the paper in inches. 3. Type the text. Each character that you type appears on the display and the cursor moves to the next position. As the cursor moves, the numbers in the column counter and line counter change to show the current cursor position. 4. If you want to print or store the text you have typed, press [MENU] to return to the Menu screen. (dkh-08/04/93)
