300 BPS DCM-7 Modem (260-1394) Addendum Faxback Doc. # 5994 MANUAL ERRORS PAGE 26 RESULT CODES IN HAYES MODE--The result codes NO CARRIER (DISCONNECT) will not be displayed when the phone line is disconnected by the space discon- nect. ESCAPE CODE In Hayes Mode the escape code does not function properly if the result codes are disabled. It is recommended that you turn on the result codes (either numeric or verbal) so that you can use the escape code without problems. On Page 39, the manual states that in Hayes Mode the guard time is entered before and after the escape code. This escape guard time is inserted only after the escape code. LOWERCASE V. UPPERCASE COMMAND ENTRIES FROM THE KEYBOARD The DCM-7 automatically interprets a lowercase key entry into its uppercase equivalent. PAGE 32 REDEFINE ABORT CHARACTER--When you enter the lowercase a as the abort character, your entry is interpreted as an uppercase A, which is de- fined as the abort character. The Modem's parameter listings will show (after you press for the list command) EXIT-41 Hex (65 decimal) for uppercase A, not EXIT-61 Hex (97 decimal) for the lowercase a. This interpretation is done by subtracting 20 Hex from the value entered for codes 61 to 7F Hex. Thus, when you enter a special character with codes between 7B to 7F, it will be interpreted as 5B to 5F. PAGE 45 REGISTERS S2,S3, and S4--The manual states that you can enter any number between 0 and 127 for these registers. However, if you enter a number over 96, the escape will not work since the DCM-7 interprets these codes into the uppercase equivalent. For example, an entry such as the number 120 (lowercase x for the escape code will be accepted, but you can not enter the escape code from the key- board. The lowercase x will be interpreted as an uppercase X, which is not the escape code. XENIX OPERATIONS PAGE 53 DIAL OUT--After you set the proper DIP switches (same as used for always auto-answer mode operation) and power up the Modem, configure XENIX FOR THE HAYES MODE SET instead of using the command dialHAYES . Refer to your XENIX system's documentation for details. Then, program the Modem to automatically dial a call by using cu.s3. (css 08/04/93)
