Serial-Parallel (260-2829) Using the Conveter Faxback Doc. # 6108 Converter Warning: Be sure to turn off and disconnect your equipment's power cords before making any connections. Connecting cables with your equipment turned on might damage the cables and the equipment. To discharge any static build-up, touch a grounded metal object before you being to connect the equipment. 1. Plug the serial cable into the serial equipment. Secure the connection with hardware included with your serial cable. 2. Plug the serial cable's DB-25 female connector into the converter's SERIAL port. Secure the connection with the hardware included with your serial cable. 3. Plug the parallel cable's DB-25 male connector into the converter's PARALLEL port. Secure the connection with the hardware included with your parallel cable. Caution: Be sure to connect the converter's serial side to serial equipment and the converter's parallel side to parallel equipment. Failure to do so will result in damage to all connected equipment. Place the converter on a flat surface to ensure there is no tension on the cables. 4. Plus the parallel cable's other end into your parallel equipment. Secure the connection with the hardware included with your parallel cable. 5. Plug the AC/DC adapter's small round plug into the converter's adapter jack. Caution: Use only the supplied power adapter. Using an inappropriate adapter might damage the converter and your connected equipment. 6. Plug the AC/DC adapter's large plug into a standard AC outlet. 7. Reconnect the equipment to an appropriate power source. OPERATION Send data from the equipment's serial port as usual. Send data from the equipment's parallel port as usual. Note: This converter does not function with serial equipment designed to echo messages back to the computer (such as a plotter's working parameters or status) because the parallel interface can only pass data in one direction.
