TRC-91 (210-1613) Installing Crystals Faxback Doc. # 6137 This walkie talkie has three pairs of crystal sockets (labeled A, B, and C) that let you install crystals for any three channels in the 40-channel citizen's band. Crystals for Channel 14 are already installed in the A sockets. The three pairs of sockets are identical, so you can install any pair of crystals in any of the three pairs of sockets. You must use crystals specifically designed for your walkie talkie. You can order these crystals at your local Radio Shack store. When you order, be sure you specify the desired channel and this walkie talkies catalog number (21-1613). See "Citizen's Band Frequency Chart" for the receiver and transmitter frequencies for channels in the citizen's band. Note: We cannot be responsible for the proper operation of your walkie talkie if you use other manufacturer's crystals. We urge you to use only crystals from your local Radio Shack store. A frequency is marked on each crystal. Each pair of sockets on the circuit board is marked with the channel letter (A, B, or C), X1 (receive), and X2 (transmit). There is also a diagram of the sockets on the inside back cover. Be sure you install the receiver (and transmitter (T) crystals in the correct sockets. Caution: If you reverse the crystals, the walkie talkie transmits and receives on frequencies outside the citizens band, which results in illegal operation. To change or install crystals, follow these steps: 1. Remove the screw from the top of the back cover. 2. Remove the battery compartment cover. Then, remove the battery case. 3. Remove the screw from the inside of the battery compartment. Then, remove the back cover. 4. Insert the matched pair of crystals into the desired channel's sockets. 5. Replace the back cover and the battery case. Then, replace the two screws and the battery compartment cover. (RLR-02-23-94)
