TAD-248 (430-0757) Remote Operation Faxback Doc. # 6146 You can operate the TAD from almost any touch-tone phone or from a rotary phone using a pocket tone-dialer available at your Radio Shack store. You must enter the personal security code (marked on the back of the TAD) before you can operate the TAD from a remote location. This helps prevent unauthorized use of the TAD. Remote Answer-On You can activate the TAD while you are away from your home or office provided: * AC power is on. * The cassette tape is installed. Follow these steps to turn on the TAD from a remote location. 1. Call your telephone number. The TAD answers after about the tenth ring and sounds four beeps. Note: If the TAD answers after the second or fourth ring, the TAD is already set to answer calls. You can either hang up or use its remote features. 2. Enter your security code within eight seconds after the fourth beep. Hold the button down for at least two seconds for the TAD to recognize the code. The TAD confirms the entry with a beep followed by your OGM. (If you do not enter the security code within 8 seconds, the TAD disconnects the call.) 3. Hang up or use other remote features. Other Remote Features To operate the TAD from a remote location, do the following. 1. Dial your phone number. If there are recorded messages (including memos), the TAD answers on the second ring. If there are no recorded messages, the TAD answers on the fourth ring. A beep sounds and the OGM plays, followed by another beep. Note: If the TAD does not answer until after 10 rings, it is not set to answer calls. 2. Press and hold your security code button for at least two seconds after the beep. The TAD responds with a beep. 3. After the beep, enter a remote command by pressing the appropriate number. After each operation, the TAD beeps. To end remote operation, hang up the phone. Notes: * Unless you enter remote command 2 (Answer-Off) the TAD sets itself to answer calls after remote operation. * You must enter the remote command within 8 seconds after the beep. If you do not, the TAD hangs up. Use these commands to operate the TAD from a remote location. * Play-Press 3 after the beep to hear recorded incoming messages. You hear various tones as the tape rewinds. Then, the TAD plays the messages. After the last message, two beep sound. You can either save, erase, or replay the messages. * Change the OGM-Press 1 after the beep. The TAD responds with two beeps. The TAD responds with two beeps. Begin recording your new OGM. When you finish, press 1 again to end recording. A beep sounds and TAD plays back the new OGM. * Answer-Off-Press 2 after the beep to set the TAD not to answer incoming calls. To set the TAD to Answer-Off after erasing messages, press 2 again after the two beeps. * Save Messages-To save the messages, simply hang up the handset. * Erase Messages-Press 2 after play. Two beeps sound, the TAD pauses, another beep sounds, and the TAD disconnects. The tape rewinds and records future messages over the retrieved messages. * Replay Messages-Press 3 twice after playback. The TAD responds with a beep, and replays the recorded messages. You hear a series of tones as the tape rewinds. After the last message plays, two beeps sound. You can either save or erase the messages. (RLR-02-24-94)
