You can control your answering machine from any touch-tone phone without
any additional equipment.  You can also control it from a rotary dial
phone, using a pocket tone dialer (available at your local Radio Shack
store).

The personal security code prevents unauthorized persons from controlling
the answering machine, because you must enter the code before beginning
any remote operation.  If the code is correct, the answering machine
accepts your remote commands.  If it is not correct, the answering machine
hangs up after three incorrect attempts.

Notes for Using a pocket Tone Dialer.

The tones from a tone dialer must pass through the microphone of the remote
telephone to communicate with the answering machine.  Some older telephones
have microphones that might not reproduce the tones accurately, causing
erratic operation.  The tips below might help you overcome this problem.

*  Hold the handset in a vertical position.

*  Be sure you center the dialer's speaker over the mouthpiece.

Accessing the Answering Machine by Remote Control

All remote control operations begin with three basic steps:

1.  Dial your phone number.  The answering machine answers, and the
    outgoing message begins.  Remember, if you set the ANSWER switch
    to TOL S (toll saver), the answering machine waits four rings before
    answering if it has received no calls since you last checked it.  It
    answers on the first ring if it has received at least one new message.

2.  Before the outgoing message ends, press any key.  The answering machine
    announces.  Please enter remote code."

3.  Enter your 3-digit security code within 10 seconds.

If the code is correct, the answering machine announces the number of
messages, rewinds, and then plays back any new massages.  After message
playback, the answering machine announces, "Enter star for help, enter
command."  Enter the individual commands.  The answering machine performs
each command as you enter it.

If the code is incorrect, the answering machine announces.  "First error."
Enter the correct code within 10 seconds.  If you enter an incorrect code
again, the answering machine announces, "Second error."  Enter the correct
correct code within 10 seconds.  If you enter an incorrect code three
times, the answering machine announces, "Third error," issues a 2 second
beep and hangs up.
