Motion Sensor (490-0550) Testing the Sensor Faxback Doc. # 6171 After you make all connections and double-check them, you are ready to test the sensor. This section describes two tests. One test lets you see if the sensor is registering movement, and the other test lets you see if the sensor triggers your alarm system. TESTING THE DETECTION AREA To test the sensor's detection area, do the following: 1. Disarm your alarm system. 2. Confirm that the area protected by the sensor is clear of all people, pets, and potential problems. 3. Turn the LED control to ON. 4. Take at least five steps, across the protected area. Repeat this for four different directions. 5. While walking, see if the sensor's Red indicator lights within four steps. The sensor should detect movement in at least three out of the four directions you walked. If the sensor does not detect movement during this test, aim or move the sensor again, or set GAIN or PULSE to a more sensitive setting. 6. Stand clear of the protected area, but where you can see the sensor to see if the indicator lights. It should not light. If it does light, check the covered area to see what is causing the false alarm. Then, remove the item, angle or move the sensor so it does not cover that area, reduce the sensitivity with GAIN or PULSE, or mask the zone(s). (RLR-02/25/94)
