Infrared Headphone System (320-2052) Installation Faxback Doc. # 6183 You need to properly install the transmitter so you can fully enjoy the benefits of your infrared headphone system. CONNECTING TO YOUR AUDIO SOURCE To connect the transmitter to your audio source, insert the supplied 1/4- inch or 1/8-inch phono connector into the plug on the transmitter's audio cord. Then, insert the plug into the audio source's headphone or earphone jack. Note: If your audio source does not have an output jack, use an optional microphone adapter such as Radio Shack's Cat. No. 33-1067 to connect the transmitter to your audio source. Simply place the microphone in front of the audio source's speaker. Then plug the microphone's plug into the transmitter's MIC jack. CONNECTING TO POWER To power the transmitter, insert the supplied AC adapter's barrel plug into the transmitter's DC 12V jack. Then plug the adapter into a standard 120-volt AC outlet. Note: To avoid serious shock hazard, do not leave the adapter plugged into the AC outlet when the barrel plug is not plugged into the transmitter. Caution: You must use an AC adapter that supplies 12 volts and delivers at least 200 milliamps. Its center tip must be set to negative and its plug must correctly fit the transmitter's DC 12V jack. Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications could seriously damage the transmitter or the adapter. ADJUSTING THE AUDIO LEVEL For best results, adjust the transmitter's Volume control as follows: 1. Set the transmitter's OFF/ON switch to ON. 2. Turn on the audio source. 3. Adjust the transmitter's VOL control until only the green indicator lights. Notes: If both indicators light, the transmitter's volume level is too high. If neither indicator lights, the transmitter's volume level is too low. If you connect the transmitter to a variable output jack (earphone, headphone, or microphone), you might need to adjust the audio source's volume control. Caution: The transmitter's surface heats slightly during operation. Do not touch the transmitter's surface while it is on. INSTALLING THE HEADPHONE BATTERIES The headphone receiver is powered by two AAA batteries. For best performance, we recommend alkaline batteries, such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-555. Follow these steps to install the batteries: 1. To remove the battery compartment cover, press down and slide the cover in the direction of the arrow. 2. Install two AAA batteries, as indicated by the battery diagrams shown inside the battery compartment. 3. Replace the cover. Note: If the battery indicator does not light when you turn on the head- phone receiver, replace the batteries. PLACING THE TRANSMITTER The transmitter emits the infrared signal in a 40-degree, conical pattern. For best results, place the transmitter as high as possible and use the headphone receiver within the signal area. Notes: Bright sunlight directly affects infrared light. Operating the headphone system where the transmitter is exposed to bright sunlight might prevent optimum transmission. Do not point the transmitter directly toward a window. The infrared signals do not reflect and reception might be poor. (LB/all-08/23/94)
