X/K/KA Radar Detector (220-1643) Operation Faxback Doc. # 6202 1. Turn OFF/VOLUME away from OFF until it clicks to turn on the radar detector. The detector performs a self-test and the X/K/KA tones sound. When the self-test is completed, the green indicator lights to verify that the radar detector works. 2. Press CITY/HWY to the desired setting. When you set it to CITY, the yellow indicator lights. The CITY setting lowers the detector's sensitivity, reducing the likelihood of false radar alerts caused by electronic devices such as commercial door openers and burglar alarms. When the detector is set to HWY, the power indicator stays on and the yellow light turns off. 3. Turn OFF/VOLUME to adjust the alert tone's sound level. The detector beeps when it detects traffic radar. The sound rate depends upon the strength of the signal. Several seconds between beeps indicates a weak signal. A steady beep indicates a strong signal. 4. Press DARK to the desired setting. When you set the display to DARK the signal strength display and CITY light do not turn on. 5. Set MUTE to the desired setting. When you set the detector to MUTE, the alert tone does not sound. Instead, use the signal strength display to monitor the traffic radar. The more indicators that are lit on the signal strength display, the stronger the signal being received. * equals ( 1 yellow) ** equals ( 1 yellow + 1 red) *** equals ( 1 yellow + 2 red) CAUTION: Do not set the controls to HWY or DARK when using MUTE, or you might miss a radar signal completely. 6.
