CTR-88 (140-1103) Power Faxback Doc. # 6210 With the proper adapter, you can operate the recorder from an AC outlet or vehicle's cigarette-lighter socket. AC/DC Adapter Notes: You must use an adapter that supplies 3 volts DC power and delivers at least 200 milliamps. Its center tip must be set to negative, and it must have a plug that properly fits the CTR-88's DC 3V jack. Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications could damage the CTR-88 or the adapter. Connecting an AC or DC adapter automatically disconnects the internal batteries. Always plug the adapter into the recorder before you plug it into the wall outlet or cigarette-lighter socket. Always unplug the adapter from the wall outlet or cigarette-lighter socket before you unplug it from the recorder. USING AC POWER To power the recorder from an AC outlet, you need an AC adapter (not supplied), such as Cat. No. 273-1654. Insert the adapter's small plug into the recorder's DC 3V jack. This disconnects the internal batteries. Then plug the adapter into a standard AC outlet. USING THE VEHICLE'S BATTERY You can power the recorder from your vehicle's cigarette-lighter socket. This connection requires a DC adapter, such as Cat. No. 270-1560. Caution: The vehicle must have a 12-volt DC, negative-ground electrical system. Follow these steps to power the recorder from you vehicle's cigarette-lighter socket. 1. Set the adapter's voltage switch to 3V 2. Attach the orange-rimmed barrel plug to the DC adapter's cord with the tip set to negative (-). 3. Insert the plug into the recorder's DC 3V jack. This disconnects the internal batteries. 4. Plug the adapter into the vehicle's cigarette-lighter socket. NOTE: If the recorder does not operate properly when powered from the vehicle's battery, unplug the adapter from the cigarette-lighter socket and clean any ashes or other debris from the socket.
