Radar Detector (220-1646) Operation Faxback Doc. # 6230 Power and Self Test To turn on the radar detector, connect power and tap P/V. The radar detector sounds a distinctive tone for each band as a self test and lights the signal-strength indicators. To Turn off the radar detector, tap P/V again. NOTE: When you turn off the detector, it stores your last volume and mode selections. Adjusting the Volume To change the radar detector's volume, press and hold down P/V. The detector sounds a tone and lights the signal strength meter to indicate the relative volume level. Operating Settings The radar detector has two operating modes: highway and city. You can also set the radar detector to mute. Highway Mode The highway mode provides maximum sensitivity for open-road driving. If you have pressed CTY to select the city mode, press CTY again to return to highway mode. The C indicator turns off. City Mode The FCC has allocated X-band for non-traffic radar systems such as intrusion alarms, automatic door openers, and microwave traffic signal controllers. The city mode reduces the audio annoyance created by non- traffic radar signals. To select the city mode, press CTY. The C indicator turns on. When you select city mode, the radar detector requires a stronger X-band signal before it sounds an alert tone. The signal strength indicators continue to react immediately to X-band signals to keep you quietly informed. The city mode setting has no effect on K or super wideband Ka signals. Audio Modes While the audio alert is sounding, you can press AUD to temporarily silence the radar detector. The radar detector returns to normal operation after the radar signal stops. You can change the alert tone to sound several X, K, or Ka tones followed by muted clicking by pressing AUD when no alert is sounding. The clicking becomes more rapid as the radar signal strength increases. (CJD/all-06/06/94)
