LCD Auto Range Multimeter (220-0163) Indicators Faxback Doc. # 6290 FUNCTION BUZZER The function buzzer automatically turns on when you turn on the multimeter. A speaker symbol appears on the display and the buzzer sounds: A single tone when you change the function setting or press any button. An intermittent tone when a measurement exceeds the volts and amperes range in manual range control. An intermittent tone on the highest and the 400 mA ranges in auto range control To turn off the function buzzer, press the speaker symbol. The buzzer sounds and the speaker symbol disappears from the display. From then on, the buzzer does not sound. NOTE: We recommend that you use the function buzzer when operating the multimeter. CONTINUITY BUZZER * ))) appears on the display when you select the continuity function. When the resistance of the measured circuit or component is less than 50 ohms +/-30 ohms in the continuity check function, the buzzer sounds a continuous tone regardless of the buzzer switch setting. The function or continuity buzzer does not sound: When you remove the probes from the circuit under measurement. When you measure a value using the appropriate range. OVER-RANGE INDICATION In Autorange Control: The range automatically shifts for the best reading. During the shift, OL (overload) appears between ranges momentarily, but the buzzer does not sound. If a measurement exceeds the absolute maximum ratings, OL appears on the display. If the function buzzer is on, it intermittently sounds. Immediately remove the test leads' probes from the circuit under measurement or the multimeter might be damaged. NOTE: The 40mA and 400 mA ranges are protected by a 0.5 A fuse. When more than 0.5 A is input into the + V ohms A jack, the fuse in the multimeter might blow and cause the display to freeze at 00.0. When this happens, replace the fuse. In Manual Range Control If the measured value exceeds the selected range (except the highest range), OL (overload) appears on the display to alert you to select a higher range. If the function buzzer is on, it intermittently sounds for the volts and amperes functions. If an overrange occurs when using the 400mA range (DC/AC), OL appears on the display to alert you to change the red test lead connection to the 10A MAX jack. If the function buzzer is on, it intermittently sounds. In Manual or Auto Range Control If the measured value exceeds, 1020 V DC, 770 V AC, or 12A AC/DC, OL (or the measured value) blinks on the display. If the function buzzer is on, it intermittently sounds. If the measured voltage or current exceeds 1020V DC, 770V AC, 12A AC/DC, on the highest range, OL blinks on the display. If the buzzer is on, it intermittently sounds. If the measured value is between 1000 and 1020V DC, 750 and 770V AC, 10 and 12A DC/AC on the highest range, the measured value blinks on the display. If the function buzzer is on, it intermittently sounds. If an overrange occurs on any range in the ohms/continuity function, OL appears but does not blink. The buzzer does not sound, even if the buzzer is on. The continuity check function has a fixed range of 400 ohms. (CJD/all-07/14/94)
