Notes: If you are using pulse service, it takes the phone a few seconds to finish dialing. If you do not return the handset to the cradle, the phone automatically hangs up. Press the switchhook to make or receive another call. USING REDIAL Each time you dial a number, the telephone stores that number in a temporary memory. If you want to call the last number dialed, lift the handset and press REDIAL. Note: The redial memory does not store a FLASH entry or any buttons you press before FLASH. PUTTING A CALL ON HOLD The hold feature lets you put a call on hold. 1. Press HOLD. The hold indicator lights. While the call is on hold, you can place the handset in the cradle. 2. To release the call from hold, do one of the following: Lift the handset or another phone on the line, and continue the conversation. Lifting the handset release the call from hold. If you did not return the handset to the cradle after putting a call on hold, press and hold the switchhook for one second or longer. Then release the switchhook to continue the conversation. USING FLASH Many special phone services require a switchhook signal. You can send a switchhook signal by quickly pressing and releasing the switchhook, but pressing FLASH sends the same signal more accurately and conveniently. Notes: If you do not have special phone services, pressing FLASH might disconnect the call. The redial memory does not store a FLASH entry or any buttons you press before FLASH. USING MUTE If you want to speak with someone in the room without the person on the phone hearing your conversation, press and hold MUTE. To resume your phone conversation, release MUTE. USING TONE SERVICES ON A PULSE LINE Some special services, such as bank-by-phone, require tone signals. If you have pulse service, you can still use such special tone services by following these steps: 1. Be sure TONE/PULSE is set to PULSE. Then dial the number of the special service. 2. When the service answers with a second dial tone, press */TONE. Any additional numbers are dialed using tone signals. Note: After you hang up, all numbers are dialed using pulse signals again. 3. Follow the special service's dialing procedure. Note: You can also change TONE/PULSE to TONE at the appropriate place in the call. Using Redial for Tone Services on a Pulse Line To redial a number that includes a change from PULSE to TONE, leave TONE/ PULSE set to PULSE and press REDIAL. The phone stops redialing at the mode change. Simply press REDIAL a second time to dial the remaining numbers. (LB/smc-05/04/94)
