TRANSLATING A WORD

Follow these steps to translate a word.

1.  Press MODE until a language name appears on the display.  This is
    the translation mode.

2.  Press the button for the language you want to translate from.  Then
    enter the word you want to translate.  For example, to translate the
    word TAKE from English, press ENG (English).  Then type TAKE.

NOTE:  Occasionally the word you want to translate will translate to a
       British spelling.

3.  Press the button for the language you want to translate to.  For 
    Example, press FRE (French); prendre appears on the display.

NOTES:

Press the language button additional times to get alternate
translations for the word.

If the word you want to translate is not in the translator's
dictionary, the next word appears in the display with a ?

4.  Repeat Steps 1 to 3 to translate other words.

NOTES:

If you are unsure of a word's spelling, enter one or several characters
and then press any language button.  The translator displays the first
word in its word list that begins with the entered characters.

For example, enter FAM, then press FRE; fame with ? appears on the
display.  Press up arrow and down arrow to scroll the word list.  When
you display the word you want to translate, press the language button.

Some languages have additional or accented characters.  Enter the letter
that most closely matches the character.  When you press the language
button, the word with its proper character or accent appears on the
display with ?.  For example, if you select to translate from Spanish
(Espanol). press SPA (Spanish).  Type NINO and then press the button
for the language you want to translate to, the translator displays: 

niņo ?

If that is the word you want to translate, press the language
button again to confirm.  Otherwise press up arrow or down
arrow to search for the right word.

TRANSLATING A BUILT-IN SENTENCE

There are eight built-in categories of sentences.  Follow these steps to
find just the sentence you need.

1.  Press MODE to display the translation mode and choose the language
    you want to translate from.  For example, press ENG for English.


2.  Press daylight saving key.  The display shows the first two
    categories of built-in sentences.  Press down arrow or up arrow to
    scroll through all eight categories.

    1  General                    5  Shopping
    2  Accommodation              6  Money

    3  Transport                  7  Emergency
    4  Restaurant                 8  Entertainment

3.  Press the number for the category you want to use.  The first
    sentence in that category appears.  For example, press 8 for
    entertainment.  "What is there to do in the evening?"  appears
    on the display.

4.  Press left arrow or right arrow to scroll through the sentences.

NOTE:  If the display does not show the complete sentence,
       press down arrow to view the remaining parts of that
       sentence.

5.  When you have chosen the sentence you want to translate, press the
    key for the language you want to translate to.
