EC-209 (650-0555B) Overflow Errors Faxback Doc # 6332 Overflow happens when the result of a calculation is too large for the EC-209 to hold. The EC-209 displays E (overflow error) under the following conditions: 1. When you attempt to divide a number by 0> 2. When a memory result would exceed 8 digits. 3. When the calculation result exceeds eight digits to the left of the decimal point. NOTE: The calculator returns to the time mode if you do not clear an overflow error within 12 seconds. If you perform a calculation that results in an overflow condition, you can approximate the correct answer (to eight significant digits) by following this procedure. 1. Count the number of digits displayed to the left of the decimal point. 2. Remove the decimal point. 3. Add as many zeros as there were digits to the left of the decimal point. Press CE once to remove the E (overflow error) but keep the display. Press CE twice or AC once to clear the overflow display. CORRECTING ENTRY ERRORS The calculator performs the last function key pressed. For example, if you press 7 X divided by + 5 =, the calculator performs 7 + 5 = 12 appears on the display. To clear numeric entry errors, press CE once to clear the last entry, or twice to clear the entire problem except for entries you made into memory with M+ or M-. (CJD/smc-05/05/94)
