CTR-62 (140-1150) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 6335 CONNECTING POWER You can power the recorder using internal batteries. With adapters (not supplied) you also can power it with a 12-volt vehicle battery or AC power. Internal Battery Power To use internal battery power, your recorder requires four C batteries. We recommend alkaline batteries such as Radio Shack's Cat. No. 23-551. 1. To remove the battery compartment cover, press down the tabs and slide the cover in the direction of the arrow. 2. Insert the batteries into the battery compartment observing polarity symbols (+ and -) marked inside the compartment. 3. Replace the battery compartment cover. Notes: If the recorder's sound becomes weak or distorted, replace the batteries with fresh ones. If you plan to not use the recorder for a long period of time or if you operate it only with AC power, remove the batteries. If you power the recorder with your vehicle battery or AC power, internal battery power disconnects. AC Power The recorder requires an adapter to power it with AC power. We recommend Cat. No. 273-1650. To use AC power, do the following: 1. Set the adapter's voltage switch to 6V. 2. Insert the green-tipped adapter-plug's black end into the adapter cord to read TIPNEG. 3. Insert the adapter plug's other end into the DC 6V jack. 4. Plug the adapter into a standard AC outlet. Caution: The recommended adapter supplies 6 volts with the center tip negative and can deliver the 300 milliamps the recorder draws. Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications might damage the recorder or the adapter. Vehicle Battery You can use your vehicle's 12-volt battery to power the recorder, provided the vehicle has a 12-volt DC, negative-ground electrical system. This connection requires a DC adapter that provides 6V DC 300 mA output such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 14-844D. Using a different adapter could damage your recorder and/or adapter. 1. Set the adapter's Voltage switch to 6V. 2. Insert the small plug into the recorder's DC 6V jack. Plug the other end of the adapter into the vehicle's cigarette-lighter socket. Caution: Do not let the adapter's barrel-shaped plug contact any metal part of the vehicle while the adapter is plugged into the cigarette-lighter socket. This can cause a short circuit that might damage the adapter or the vehicle's electrical system. (LB/smc-05/02/94)
