USING REDIAL With the System 208, you can automatically redial the last number dialed by pressing REDIAL/PAUSE immediately after lifting the handset. The redial memory holds 32 digits in the pulse mode, or 31 digits in the tone mode, so that you can use it to redial long-distance numbers. It holds the last number either manually or memory-dialed. To use redial, simply lift the handset and press REDIAL/PAUSE. The number in the redial memory is replaced whenever you manually or memory dial a number on either line. When the System 208 redials, it uses the mode (pulse/tone) in which the number was entered, regardless of the current mode setting. You can redial the number on another line than the one you originally dialed it on, but you cannot redial it from another extension. Each extension has its own redial memory. NOTES: After the phone finishes redialing you can dial more numbers. Your additional entry is added to redial memory. If you press FLASH, only the numbers entered before FLASH are stored in the redial memory. ANSWERING A CALL 1. Lift the handset. 2. USING TONE/PULSE TO ACCESS TONE SERVICES If you have pulse (rotary) dialing service, you can take advantage of special tone-access services, such as alternate long distance or bank-by phone, by setting TONE/PULSE to TONE to temporarily switch to tone dialing. You can move this switch to the TONE position when entering a number manually and when storing a number in memory. All digits that you enter after moving the switch are tone dialed. NOTE: You cannot change from the TONE mode to the PULSE mode while making a call. To make this change, hang up the handset and slide TONE/PULSE to PULSE. Then lift the handset, and place your call in the pulse mode. USING FLASH Many special phone services require a switchhook signal of about 0.7 seconds. The FLASH button provides the electronic equivalent of a switchhook operation. For example, if you have call-waiting, you can place a call on hold and take a second incoming call by pressing FLASH. Pressing FLASH again allows you to alternate between calls. Note that only numbers dialed before you press FLASH are stored in redial memory. NOTE: If you do not subscribe to call-waiting, do not press FLASH during a call. The line is hung up when FLASH is pressed. FLASH can be stored in memory. USING THE * AND # BUTTONS These buttons can be dialed or stored in memory when the telephone is set to the tone mode. In the pulse mode these buttons have no function. USING PAUSE At times you need to pause when dialing a number. For example, some office phone systems require that you pause momentarily after dialing the access code for an outside line, to wait for the outside dial tone. Use the REDIAL/PAUSE button to enter such pauses. Press REDIAL/PAUSE at the point at which you would normally pause when entering the number. NOTES: If you do not subscribe to call waiting, do not press FLASH during a call, you might disconnect the call. Only numbers dialed before you press FLASH are stored in the redial memory. A flash entry can be stored in the auto-dial memory. Later, when you redial or memory dial the number, there is an approximately 2-second pause at each point at which you pressed REDIAL/PULSE. Dialing continues automatically. If you need more than a 2-second pause, press REDIAL/PAUSE as many time as needed when entering the number. (CJD/smc-04/21/94)
