PRO-2033 (200-0410) Operation Faxback Doc. # 6361 SETTING VOLUME AND SQUELCH 1. Turn VOLUME to OFF, and turn SQUELCH to MIN. 2. Turn VOLUME toward MAX until you hear a hissing sound. 3. Slowly turn SQUELCH toward MAX until the hissing stops. Note: If the scanner picks up unwanted, partial, or very weak transmissions, slowly turn SQUELCH toward MAX to decrease the scanner's sensitivity to these signals. STORING FREQUENCIES INTO CHANNELS You can store a frequency into each of the scanner's 10 channels. Good references for active frequencies are Radio Shack's "Police Call Guide Including Fire and Emergency Services," "Maritime Frequency Directory," and "Aeronautical Frequency Directory." We update these directories every year so be sure to get a current copy. 1. Press MANUAL. Enter the channel number you want to store a frequency in. 2. Press PROGRAM. 000.000 flashes on the display. 3. Enter the desired frequency. 4. Press E (enter) to store the frequency. The stored frequency flashes on the display. If you made a mistake in Step 3, ERROR appears on the display. Press */ CLEAR and repeat Steps 3-4. 5. Repeat Steps 1-4 to program more channels. If you want to program the next channel in order, repeat Steps 2-4. SCANNING CHANNELS To begin scanning the channels, press SCAN. Your scanner scans through all the channels except the ones you lock out. MANUALLY SELECTING A CHANNEL You can continuously monitor a single channel without scanning. This is useful if you hear an emergency broadcast and want to hear all the details, or if you want to monitor a channel you locked out. To monitor a channel, press MANUAL, enter the channel number, and press MANUAL again. Or, if scanning has stopped at the desired channel, simply press MANUAL once. Continue to press MANUAL to step through the channels one at a time. Note: If you enter an invalid number, Error appears on the display. LOCKING OUT CHANNELS You can set your scanner to scan more efficiently by locking out channels you do not want to monitor, such as channels with a continuous transmission. Enter the channel number you want to lock out, then press LOCKOUT so the L/O indicator appears. Note: You still manually select locked out channels. To unlock a channel, manually select the channel and press LOCKOUT so the L/O indicator goes off. LISTENING TO THE WEATHER BAND The FCC (Federal Communications Commission) has set aside several frequencies for use by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). We preprogrammed your scanner with all the frequencies available to NOAA. To hear your local forecast and regional weather information, press WX. Your scanner begins scanning through the weather band and stops when it finds a transmission. If the scanner stops on a weak station, press WX again to scan through the rest of the weather band. To stop monitoring the weather channels, press either SCAN or MANUAL. AUTOMATIC DELAY Many agencies use a two-way radio system that might have a pause of several seconds between a query and a reply. Your scanner automatically pauses for two seconds after each transmission before it resumes scanning. (LB/smc-05/11/94)
