ANSWERING/MAKING A CALL To make a call, pick up the handset and press TALK. When you hear a dial tone, dial the telephone number. When you are finished, press TALK to hang up. Return the handset to the base, if you are close enough to do so. NOTE: If you place the handset on the base without pressing TALK to hang up, the phone automatically hangs up. The next time you pick up the handset, the phone will automatically be on. To answer a call, simply lift the handset from the base (or press TALK if it was not on the base). When you are finished, return the handset to the base (or press TALK to hang up). NOTES: If you press TALK accidentally within 2-3 seconds of lifting the handset (if the phone is already on), the phone ignores your command. After 2-3 seconds, press- ing TALK will disconnect the line. If you first answer a call on an extension phone and you wait 10 seconds after the last ring to lift the cordless handset, you might have to press TALK to answer the call. To disconnect a call, place the handset on the base or press TALK again. ERROR TONE When you press a button, a brief tone sounds to indicate that the phone accepted the command, If you are out of range or there is too much interference, a short low-frequency error tone sounds. Move the handset into proper range and try again. USING FLASH FLASH sends the electronic equivalent of a switchhook signal. Use FLASH with special phone company services such as call waiting. If you have call waiting, press FLASH to take an incoming call without disconnecting the current call. Press FLASH again to return to the first call. NOTE: If you do not have any special phone services, pressing FLASH might disconnect the current call. USING REDIAL Use REDIAL to quickly redial the last number dialed. Lift the handset or press TALK then press REDIAL after you hear a dial tone. NOTES: The redial memory holds up to 63 digits, so you can redial long-distance as well as local numbers. When you redial a number which includes FLASH, only the numbers after FLASH are dialed. For example, if you dial 1 2 3 4 FLASH 5 6 7, pressing REDIAL will only re- dial 5 6 7. TEMPORARY TONE DIALING If you have pulse service, you can dial a number as usual, then temporarily switch to tone service for banking services or computer transactions. Simply press TONE* all the appropriate place in the call to change to tone dialing. The phone automatically returns to pulse dialing when you disconnect your call. (CJD/smc-04/28/94)
