Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer (630-0859) Setup Faxback Doc. # 6421 INSTALLING/REPLACING THE BATTERY Your indoor/outdoor thermometer requires one AAA battery, such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-555. Follow these steps to install or replace the battery. 1. Push down on the top of the battery compartment cover and slide it in the direction indicated by the arrow. 2. If necessary, remove and discard the old battery. Cautions: Never leave a dead, old or weak battery in the thermometer. It can leak chemicals and corrode or damage electronic circuits. Always dispose of the battery promptly and properly. Never burn a battery. 3. Place a fresh AAA battery in the compartment as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and -) marked in the compartment. Notes: Use only a fresh battery of the required size and type. Occasionally, the thermometer might not operate when you install the battery. If this occurs, simply remove and reinstall the battery. 4. Replace the cover. As soon as you install the battery, all the dual display's segments light for about 4 seconds, then the indoor and outdoor temperatures appear. SETTING THE DISPLAY Set C/F on the back of the thermometer to display Fahrenheit (F) or Celsius (C) temperature readings. Then press RESET to clear the memory of any previously stored maximum and minimum temperatures. CHOOSING MOUNTING LOCATIONS Choose locations for mounting the thermometer and the outdoor sensor that are within 10 feet of each other and that will allow you to easily route the outdoor sensor's cord to the thermometer. Note: The outdoor sensor's cord is permanently attached to the thermometer. Caution: Keep the thermometer and sensor away from hot or cold sources such as stoves, heating and air conditioning vents, radiators, and direct sunlight. WALL MOUNTING THE THERMOMETER 1. Drive a screw (not supplied) into the wall at the location you chose for the thermometer until the head extends 1/8-inch from the wall. Note: Before driving the screw into the wall, make sure the screw's head fits the keyhole slot on the back of the thermometer. 2. Place the keyhole slot on the back of the thermometer over the screw, slide down the thermometer until it locks into place. MOUNTING THE OUTDOOR SENSOR 1. Route the outdoor sensor's cord from the thermometer to the outside location you chose for the sensor. Note: The most common place to route the outside sensor wire to the thermometer located inside is through a window sill. 2. Drive a nail or screw at the outside location and attach the supplied sensor clip to it. 3. Hang the outdoor sensor on the clip. (LB/smc-04/27/94)
