TAD-512 (430-0751) Remote Operation Faxback Doc. # 6442 You can remotely set the TAD to answer calls from any phone. Or, you can remotely set the TAD to rewind and play back messages from any touch-tone phone, or from any rotary phone with a pocket tone dialer. REMOTE ANSWER-ON While you are away from home, you can call the TAD from any phone and set it to answer calls if the TAD is in the stop mode, power is supplied to the TAD, and the outgoing announcement cassette is installed. To set the TAD to answer calls, call the TAD and let it ring until it answers (after about 1 minute and 15 seconds). When the TAD answers, hang up the phone. The TAD is now ready to answer calls. Note: If no outgoing announcement cassette is installed, the TAD pauses, sounds eight beeps, and hangs up. SETTING THE SECURITY CODE You must use a security code to access the TAD remotely. This prevents unauthorized persons from controlling the TAD. The default security code for remote operation is 111. However, we suggest you select your own code, which can be any three-digit number between 111 and 444. Follow these steps to change the security code. 1. Press and hold STOP. While holding STOP, press PLAY/FAST-F. When a long beep sounds, release the buttons. 2. Within 7 seconds after the long beep, press one of the following four buttons to select the first digit. STOP for 1 REWIND for 2 PLAY/FAST-F for 3 ANSWER for 4 A short beep sounds. Note: If you do not enter any digit within 7 seconds after the beep, the TAD sounds 8 beeps. Start again from Step 1. 3. Repeat Steps 2 to store the second and third digits of the security code. After you set the third digit a long beep sounds to indicate the code has been stored. To change the code, repeat Steps 1-3. PLAYING MESSAGES Note: If the incoming message cassette is not installed, you cannot play messages remotely. Follow these steps to play messages remotely. 1. Call the TAD. The TAD answers on the second ring if there are new messages. If there are no new messages, the TAD answers on the fourth ring. This toll-saver feature saves long-distance fees by indicating if you have any new messages. If there are no new messages, you can hang up before the TAD answers. 2. When the outgoing announcement starts to play, press *. The announcement stops and the TAD waits 7 seconds for you to enter your security code. 3. Enter the three-digit security code on the phone's keypad. If you enter the correct code and there are new messages, the incoming message tape rewinds to the beginning of the new messages and the TAD sounds three beeps. Then the TAD plays the messages. At the end of the last messages, the TAD sounds three beeps and a command prompt (one long beep and two short beeps). Within 7 seconds, enter a remote command or hang up. If there are no new messages, a command prompt sounds immediately. Within 7 seconds, enter a remote command or hang up. Notes: If you enter an incorrect code or if you do not enter a digit of the code within 7 seconds, the outgoing announcement resumes. Press * to stop the announcement. Then enter the correct code. If you enter an incorrect code three times in a row, the TAD ignores any further touch-tone entries and the outgoing announcement plays to the end. At the end of the announcement, the TAD records your call as a regular incoming call. If the incoming message tape is full when you call the TAD, the TAD sounds eight beeps (and no announcement) when it answers and waits 7 seconds for the security code entry. If you do not enter a remote command within 7 seconds after the command prompt, the TAD sounds a long beep, hangs up, and resets for the next call. If you enter the correct code, but the TAD does not respond, the code might have reset to the default (111) because of a power failure. Try entering 111. (You can later reset the code. See "Setting the Security Code.") You cannot stop playback during remote operation. You cannot cue or review during remote operation. REMOTE COMMANDS Note: If only the outgoing announcement tape is installed, you cannot use remote control operation. When the TAD sounds a command prompt, enter one of the following remote commands. 1-Rewinds the incoming message tape to the beginning of the new messages or to the beginning of the tape. At the beginning of new messages, three beeps sound and the tape stops. Press 1 again to rewind the tape to the beginning. When the tape reaches the beginning, a command prompt sounds. Note: You cannot stop rewinding during remote control operation. 2-Begins playback ENDING REMOTE OPERATION To end remote control operation, hang up after you hear the command prompt. If you hang up while messages play, the TAD hangs up, fast-forwards the incoming message tape to the end of the last message, and resets to answer the next call. If you hang up without playing all of the new messages, they remain part of the new message group. If you have played all of the new messages and want to record future messages over the messages you have heard, rewind the tape to the beginning and hang up. (LB/smc-04/29/94)
