EC-449 (650-0925) Special Function Keys Faxback Doc. # 6465 DISPLAY SYMBOLS DISPLAY FUNCTION -E- or -C- Error indication. SHIFT Secondary function mode. M A value is stored in memory. K A constant is set. DEG, RAD, or GRA An angular function is set. FIX Decimal places specified. SCI Significant digits specified. SD Standard deviation calculation. The display can show a mantissa of up to 8 digits and an exponent of up to two digits. SPECIAL KEY FUNCTIONS This section describes the special keys that affect the overall operation of the EC-449. Note: On all references to key entries, the number keys 0-9 are shown without a box, the mathematical functions +, -, X, = and Division are shown in a box, with white characters on a black foreground, and all other mathematical functions (SHIFT, SIN, etc.) are shown in a box with black characters on a white foreground KEY FUNCTION SHIFT To keep the calculator as compact as possible, some keys have more than one function. SHIFT changes the main function to the secondary function (printed in brown above the key). MODE The calculator uses 8 different modes of operation, MODE put the calculator into the selected mode. To put the calculator into the desired mode, press MODE then a number (0, or 4 - 9) or the decimal point (.). CALCULATION MODES MODE O COMP Mode. Exits the statistical calculation mode to carry out ordinary arithmetic and functional calculations. MODE . SD Mode. Calculates standard deviation. SD appears on the display (see "Standard Deviation"). ANGULAR UNIT MODES MODE 4 Degree Mode. Sets the angular mode to degrees. DEG appears on the display (see "Angular Mode"). MODE 5 Radian Mode. Sets the angular mode to radians. RAD appears on the display. Mode 6 Gradient Mode. Sets the angular mode to gradients. GRA appears on the display. DISPLAY MODES MODE 7 FIX Mode. Sets the display to show a specified number of decimal places. FIX appears on the display (see "Setting Decimal Places (FIX)"). MODE 8 SCI Mode. Sets the display to show a specified number of significant digits. SCI appears on the display (see "Setting Significant Digits (SCI)"). MODE 9 Cancels the FIX or SCI setting. Also changes the range of the exponent display (see "Scientific Notation") +/- Changes the sign of the displayed value or exponent. () Parentheses let you perform lower priority calculations before previously entered calculations. You can enter up to six levels of parentheses (parenthetic expressions within parenthetic expressions). The display shows the number of parentheses entered. MEMORY MIN Clears the previous contents then stores the displayed value into memory. M+ Adds the displayed value or the result of a pending calculation to the value in memory. SHIFT M- Subtracts the displayed value or the result of a pending calculation from the value in memory. MR Recalls the memory contents to the display. SHIFT X <->M Exchanges the displayed number with the memory contents When you store a value in memory, M appears on the display. The contents are preserved in memory even after you turn off the power. To clear the memory, press AC MIN. (SMC/all-06/06/94)
