HS-229 (430-0182) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 6477 INSTALLING/REPLACING THE BATTERY The headset amplifier requires one 9 volt rectangular battery (not supplied) for operation. For the longest operation and best performance, use an alkaline battery (Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-553). 1. Remove the headset amplifier from the phone, then remove the battery compartment cover by sliding it in the direction of the arrow. 2. Remove the old battery (if any) from the battery compartment, then unsnap it from the battery connector. 3. Snap a new battery onto the battery connector. 4. Place the new battery and battery connector in the battery compartment. 5. Replace the battery compartment cover and reattach the headset amplifier to the phone. CONNECTING THE HEADSET TO THE PHONE 1. Unplug the phone's modular handset cord from the handset jack on the phone's base. 2. Plug the phone's modular handset cord into the HANDSET jack on the right side of the headset amplifier. 3. Plug the telephone modular coiled cord from the right side of the headset amplifier into the handset jack on your phone's base. 4. Plug the headset's modular connecting cord into the HEADSET jack on the left side of the headset amplifier. ADJUSTING THE HEADSET'S SPEAKER You can wear the headset on either ear. Wear the black earpad next to the ear you choose. Depending on which side you choose, you might have to adjust the headset's speaker so the black earpad is next to your ear. 1. Hold the headset in either hand next to the speaker. 2. Grasp the speaker between the thumb and index finger of your free hand, then gently twist the speaker as far as it will go. Cautions: The speaker should twist easily. If it does not, do not force it. Try to twist it in the opposite direction. The speaker turns 180 degrees and the speaker/microphone assembly turns 60 degrees. Do not try to turn either beyond this limit. (CJD/smc-05/16/94)
