HS-229 (430-0182) Operation Faxback Doc. # 6478 NOTE: The unit turns itself off to save battery power during a call if there is not activity on the phone line for 30 to 90 seconds. The call is not disconnected, and the unit turns itself back on as soon as you or the caller speaks. TESTING THE BATTERY To test the battery, press BATT TEST on the front of the headset amplifier. If the BATT TEST/MUTE indicator does not light or lights dimly, replace the battery. PUTTING ON AND ADJUSTING THE HEADSET 1. Place the headset over either ear so the wide part of the headset is behind the ear and the black earpad is next to your ear. 2. Adjust the headset until it feels comfortable. 3. Clip the modular connecting cord's attached lapel clip to a piece of clothing. Leave enough slack in the cord so you can move your head freely without applying tension to the headset. 4. Hold the headset in place, then move the attached microphone boom until the microphone is parallel to or just below your mouth at a distance of 1 inch or less. Caution: The microphone boom swivels on the headset. Do not bend the microphone boom while you adjust it or twist the microphone on the end of the microphone boom. RECEIVING CALLS 1. The first time you use the headset, slide VOLUME on the front of the headset amplifier all the way to the left. 2. Put on the headset. 3. Pick up the phone's handset and place it beside the base. 4. The first time you use the headset, slide SELECT to I. 5. Slide HEADSET/HANDSET to HEADSET. 6. Speak into the microphone in a normal voice, then adjust VOLUME to a comfortable listening level when the caller speaks. If the caller indicates that your voice is too loud, low, or garbled, slide SELECT to II or III, then speak into the microphone again. Leave SELECT at the setting where the caller hears you best. NOTES: Once you determine which SELECT setting works best, you should not need to change it again unless you mount the HS-229 on another phone. When you first put on the headset, you might not hear sound through it. The headset turns itself on as soon as you or the caller speaks. 7. When you are finished with the call, return the phone's handset to the base. MAKING CALLS When you use the headset with the phone, you can still use all of the phone's features, including hold or special calling services. 1. NOTES: Once you determine which SELECT setting works best, you should not need to change it again unless you mount the HS-229 on another phone. When you are finished with the call, either return the phone's handset to the base or press the phone's switchhook and make another call. NOTE: Return the phone's handset to the base after you have completed all calls.
