Model 36 (160-0706) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 6525 INSTALLING THE REMOTE CONTROL'S BATTERIES The remote control requires two AA batteries (not included) for operation. We recommend alkaline batteries such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-552. 1. Remove the battery compartment cover by pushing the cover in the direction of the arrow. 2. Place two fresh AA batteries in the compartment, as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and -) marked inside. 3. Replace the compartment cover. Note: If the remote control does not work or operates poorly, replace both batteries. Caution: Use only fresh batteries of the recommended size and type. Always remove old or weak batteries. They can leak chemicals that can damage electronic circuits. SETTING THE CLOCK Set the clock accurately for proper automatic timer recording. We suggest that you use a TV or radio station as your time source. In the following example, the clock is set to 5:40 pm, Thursday, May 21st, 1993. 1. Press POWER to turn on the VCR. 2. Press TIME SET inside the VCR's front compartment. A day-of-the-week indicator flashes on the VCR's display. 3. Press CHANNEL/TRACKING -/+ until the correct day of the week appears on the display. Then press NEXT on the VCR. The hour indicators flash. 4. Press CHANNEL/TRACKING -/+ until the correct hour appears on the display. Be sure the display shows AM or PM correctly. Then press NEXT. The minute indicators flash. 5. Press CHANNEL/TRACKING -/+ until the correct minute appears on the display. 6. If the information is correct, press NEXT on the VCR. The display returns to normal and the correct clock setting appears on the VCR's display. If the information is not correct, press CLEAR on the VCR and repeat Steps 2-6. Press NEXT on the VCR to store the information. Notes: Seconds begin counting after you set the minutes and press NEXT on the VCR. If the display shows an abnormal reading or no reading, unplug the power for several seconds, then plug it in again. Then repeat Steps 1 through 6 to reset the clock. PROGRAMMING THE TUNER MEMORY You can program the tuner's memory so when you press [CHANNEL/TRACKING- -/+] the VCR's tuner scans only the active channels in your area. 1. ADDING OR DELETING A CHANNEL If the tuner stores a channel that you do not want or misses a weak channel you do want, follow these steps to manually add or delete the channel. 1. Press PRESET on the VCR. 2. Press CHANNEL/TRACKING -/+ until the channel you want to add or erase appears on the display. If the channel is stored in memory, A appears next to the channel. If it is not stored in memory, E appears next to the channel. 3. Press ADD/ERASE on the VCR to store or erase the channel. If you store the channel, A changes to E. If you erase the channel, E changes to A. 4. Press PRESET on the VCR. Notes: Although you can power the Model 36 with AC power in other countries, you cannot use the Model 36's tuner to receive local broadcasts in color system signals other than NTSC3.58 (the system used in the U.S.). The VCR can receive (and record) only NTSC3.58 color system broadcast signals. You can directly select channels not stored in the tuner's memory by using the remote control's number and CH buttons. CHANNEL SELECTION You can select channels two ways: scanning and direct. To scan for a channel press CHANNEL/TRACKING +/- on the VCR or CH/TRACKING on the remote control. The tuner automatically advances to the next programmed channel - up when you press CHANNEL +, down when you press CHANNEL-. Note: If you press CHANNEL + on the VCR or CH/TRACKING on the remote when the tuner is at the highest memorized channel, the tuner returns to the lowest memorized channel. If you press CHANNEL - on the VCR or CH/TRACKING on the remote when the tuner is at the lowest memorized channel, the tuner returns to the highest memorized channel. To directly select a channel, press the remote control's number buttons for the desired channel, then press CH on the remote. With direct channel selection, you can choose any channel in the tuner's range, even if you have not programmed the channel, if there is no broadcast present, or if the channel is scrambled. (The tuner does not unscramble the channel.) Note: The VCR display shows channel numbers over 100 as follows: Channel Display 100-109 aO-a9 110-119 bO-b9 120-125 cO-c5 CABLE CHANNEL DESIGNATIONS The VCR can receive up to 111 cable channels. The VCR displays the channels as 1-c5. Channels 2-13 are the same for VHF and cable TV, and cable companies usually number them as they appear on the display. However, cable companies often designate the other channels with a letter or letter-number combination. The following chart shows common cable channel designations. For more information, contact your cable company. You still might have to experiment to determine the proper cable channel designations for your cable system.
