Model 36 (160-0706) Recording Faxback Doc. # 6530 There are four ways to record using your VCR-immediate recording, quick timer recording, and dubbing. The video cassette you use for recording must have the erase-protection tab in place. If the tab is removed, the cassette automatically ejects if you try to record on it. The remote control has two REC buttons. You must press both buttons to begin manual recording using the remote control. This safety feature helps prevent accidental erasure of a tape. Notes: The VCR automatically adjusts the audio recording level. The system selection is NOT automatic in the recording mode. Be sure that the NTSC3.58 indicator on the VCR front panel is lit. . If not, press SYSTEM before you start recording so the NTSC3.58 indicator lights. TAPE SELECTION The quality of tape you use greatly affects record/playback quality and the life of the VCR. High-grade tape has a better coating that helps prevent dirty video heads and gives the best results. This chart shows the maximum recording times for different-length tapes. The Model 36 records only in SP speed. Cassette Used Recording Time T-60 1 hour T-120 2 hours T-160 2 2/3 hours For PAL or SECAM tapes: E-120 2 hours E-150 2 1/2 hours E-180 3 hours E-240 4 hours ERASE-PROTECTION TAB Video cassettes have an erase-protection tab to prevent accidental erasure of a tape. To prevent recording, break off the tab using a screwdriver. If the tab is removed, the VCR cannot record on the tape. The cassette automatically ejects with three beeps if you try to record on the tape. If you want to record on a video cassette that does not have the tab, put a piece of heavy plastic tape over the erase-protection tab hole. IMMEDIATE RECORDING Recording a Program As you Watch It 1. QTR Hints: To ensure that you record all of the desired program, select a recording length longer than the program material. QTR cannot function if a cassette is not inserted, or if the erase-protection tab is removed. If QTR and an automatic timer recording overlap, QTR has priority. To cancel QTR, press STOP or POWER. AUTOMATIC TIMER RECORDING Automatic timer recording (ATR) lets you set the VCR to start and end recording while you are away. The VCR has six program timers that let you record on a specific day within a two-week period. The seventh timer lets you record on the same day every week. You can set each program timer to record on a different channel. Automatic timer recording consists of two steps: setting the program timer and making the automatic timer recording. SETTING THE PROGRAM TIMER 1. Insert the cassette that you want to record on into the cassette compartment. 2. Turn on the TV and set it to the same channel as the VCR's CHANNEL switch (3 or 4). Press TV/VCR so VCR appears on the display. If you use a TV monitor, set it to the video mode. 3. Press CHECK/PRGM. ON --:--appears on the VCR's display. MAKING AN AUTOMATIC TIMER RECORDING After you set the automatic program timer(s), check to be sure that the tape you want to record on is in the cassette compartment. Then press TIMER REC on the VCR. TIMER appears on the display to indicate that the VCR is in the timer standby mode and the VCR turns off. You can press TIMER REC again to turn on and operate the VCR manually prior to the set times. But the VCR makes the automatic timer recording(s) only if you press TIMER REC so TIMER appears on the display at the set start time(s). REC appears on the display when the VCR begins recording. ATR Hints: If two timer programs overlap, the one that starts later has priority. At the start of the second program, the VCR switches to record the second program. If a tape is not loaded or the erase-protection tab is removed, TIMER does not appear, indicating that you cannot make an automatic timer recording. MONITORING AN AUTOMATIC TIMER RECORDING To monitor an automatic timer recording, turn on the TV and set its tuner to the same channel as the VCR's CHANNEL switch. Press TV/VCR so VCR appears on the display. Or, if you use a TV monitor, set it to the video mode. If you want to clear the programming for that timer while the start time and end time alternately appear, press CLEAR on the VCR. The display changes to --:--. To change a program timer, follow these steps 1. Press TIMER REC on the VCR so TIMER disappears from the display. 2. Press CHECK/PRGM on the VCR so the program number you want to change appears. 3. Tune the receiver to the proper radio station. 6. Use CHANNEL/TRACKING-+ or the remote control's number buttons and CH to select the proper channel. 7. Record the program. The process of recording from one VCR to another is called dubbing. You can use a camcorder, satellite receiver, or other device with A/V outputs in place of the playback VCR. Always use video-quality shielded cables with phono connectors to connect the video output device to the VCR. Do not use standard audio patch cords. (BR/all-07/12/94)
