Three CD Component (130-1272) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 6558 Stereo System UNPACKING and SET UP Carefully remove the components and any accessories from the shipping carton. We suggest that you save the shipping carton for future use. Place the components on a stable, level surface close to an AC outlet, out of direct sunlight, and away from sources of excess dust dirt, heat, water, moisture, vibration, and strong magnetic fields. Do not block the ventilation holes on the back cabinet. CD DRAWER TRANSIT LOCK IMPORTANT! The CD drawer has been locked in the closed position to prevent damage in transit. The CD drawer transit lock is located on the bottom of the system and you should remove it before connecting the system to AC power. Carefully place the system on its side to expose the bottom cabinet. Turn the red plastic transit lock clockwise and remove it from the bottom cabinet. Return the system to its normal upright position. NOTE: Save the transit lock in case the system ever needs to be packed for shipment again. To lock the drawer again, insert the transit lock key into the "keyhole" on the bottom cabinet and turn it counter-clockwise. ANTENNA CONNECTION This system has an FM antenna built into its AC power cord. In most areas, this antenna gives acceptable reception of all strong, local stations. However, for best reception in rural areas or for weak or distant stations, you must use an external antenna. We supplied an FM dipole antenna with the system. You can also connect an outdoor antenna. To connect the antenna, first loosen the FM antenna screws and remove the wire connecting the built-in antenna. Then connect the dipole or outdoor antenna. SPEAKER CONNECTION The speakers supplied with this system have an impedance rating of 8 ohms. If you use speakers other than those supplied they should also have an impedance rating of 8 ohms. Unwind the speaker wires and plug the speaker wires' plugs into the speaker jacks on the back panel until the jack is completely covered by the plug. For best stereo sound the speakers should be placed 5 to 10 feet apart, facing the listener, and as close to ear level as possible. AUXILIARY SOURCE CONNECTION This system has AUX/PH jacks on the back panel for connection of an optional external CD player, another tape deck, phonograph, or the audio out jacks of a TV or VCR. Connect the left and right output jacks of your auxiliary device to the left and right AUX/PH jacks on the back panel. AC POWER SUPPLY After you connect the FM antenna and speakers as described above and remove the CD drawer transit lock, you can connect the system to a 110 120V AC 60Hz Household outlet. Unwind the power cord completely and extend it to its full length before you connect to the AC outlet. CD TURNTABLE TRANSIT LOCK REMOVAL IMPORTANT! The CD turntable has been locked in place to prevent damage in transit. You must remove the transit locks before operating the CD player. Proceed as follows: 1. Set FUNCTION to CD/AUX. 2. Press POWER to turn on the system. 3. Press the CD drawer OPEN/CLOSE button to open the CD drawer. You will see two round, red plastic transit locks in the left and right CD pockets. 4. Turn the two transit locks clockwise about one-quarter turn and lift them off the platter to remove them. Save the transit locks for possible future use. Remove the paper CD Transit Lock Warning label and discard it. 5. Press OPEN/CLOSE to close the CD drawer. REMOTE CONTROL PREPARATION Open the battery door on the back of the remote control and insert two AAA batteries, with correct polarity as indicated by the polarity symbols ( + and -) marked inside. For best operation and longest life, we recommend you use alkaline batteries, such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-555. Replace the battery door. For your convenience, there is a built-in Remote Control Storage Compartment in the center of the front panel. Push and release the door. The storage drawer opens slowly. Insert the remote control in the drawer and push the door to close the compartment. (CJD/all-07/12/94)
