Remote Control (490-0771) Installation Faxback Doc. # 6563 Alarm System To install this system, you must be familiar with your vehicle's wiring system. For example, you must be able to identify the following: Accessory Terminal with + 12 Volts only when the vehicle's ignition is on or in the accessory (ACC) Position. Chassis Ground Constant +12 Volts Electric Cooling Fan Motor (if so equipped) If necessary, contact your vehicle's dealer for more information. Before you install the alarm system, carefully read this section. Cautions: Be sure your vehicle has a 12-volt DC, negative-ground electrical system. For safety and to protect your alarm system and vehicle, disconnect your vehicle's negative (-) battery terminal cable before you begin. MOUNTING THE SIREN MODULE 1. Select a location for the wire module on the engine compartment's interior wall. Caution: Do not choose a location where you might drill into your vehicle's wiring or suspension system. 2. Using the siren's mounting bracket as a guide, start the screw holes by drilling three 1/8-inch (3.5 mm) pilot holes into the mounting surface. 3. Secure the siren by inserting the supplied screws and washers through the siren's mounting bracket into the mounting surface, as shown. Note: Use all three screws for the best shock sensor performance. MOUNTING THE ANTENNA The antenna wire receives the remote arm/disarm/valet signal. Secure this wire behind the grille or another location where the reception is not blocked by the vehicle's metal chassis. MOUNTING THE INDICATOR 1. Locate a point on the dashboard that you can easily see from outside the vehicle. 2. Pull the indicator out of the mounting collar. 3. Drill a 3/8-inch (10 mm) hole in the chosen location, taking care not to drill into anything behind the dash. 4. Press the collar into the hole from the front of the dash. 5. Secure the spring washer, internal teeth washer, and nut on the collar from the back of the dashboard panel. 6. Insert the indicator into the mounting collar from the back and connect the indicator's plug to the corresponding harness on the siren module. CONNECTING THE WIRING HARNESS The wiring harness connects the siren module to chassis ground, 12-volt DC power, the cooling fan motor, and accessory (ACC) power. Before connecting the wiring harness, place it next to the siren module. Do not connect it to the module at this time, but route each wire from this location to be sure each wire reaches from the siren module to its connection point. Avoid sharp edges and hot or moving parts. For safety and to protect your alarm system and vehicle, disconnect your vehicle's negative (-) battery terminal cable before you begin. Power Connect the wiring harness's red wire with the in-line fuse to a continuous 12-volt source. You can connect it directly to the battery's positive terminal or to a non-switched fuse terminal (a terminal that the vehicle's ignition does not turn on and off). Ground Route the black wire from the wiring harness's location and secure it to the vehicle's frame or fire wall using an existing bolt or connect it directly to the battery's negative terminal. Accessory Lead Connect the wiring harness's blue wire to an accessory (ACC) terminal in the fuse block that only provides power when the vehicle's ignition is on. Cooling Fan Lead If your vehicle does not have an electric engine cooling fan that turns on to cool the engine, even after you turn off the vehicle's ignition, connect the yellow wire to the vehicle's frame or firewall using an existing bolt or connect it directly to the battery's negative terminal. If your vehicle has an electric fan that turns on after you turn off the ignition, you must connect the yellow wire from the main control module to the lead on the fan housing that goes to the thermostatic switch. This side has +12 V when the fan is on and is grounded when the fan is off. This connection prevents the fan from causing the alarm to sound a false alert. COMPLETING INSTALLATION Note: Your vehicle's negative battery cable should be disconnected. After you complete all connections, recheck them to be sure they are correct. Then plug the wiring harness into the siren module. Finally reconnect the vehicle's negative (-) battery cable and ensure all other electric devices in your vehicle are operating properly. Note: You must reset your clock and any other electrical devices in your vehicle. ASSIGNING THE REMOTE TRANSMITTER TO THE SIREN MODULE Two different remote transmitters can control the siren module. Your system comes with two remote transmitters. To purchase a replacement remote transmitter, contact your local Radio Shack store. Follow these steps to assign a remote to the siren module. 1. Unscrew the three screws and remove the siren module's back cover. 2. Press LEARNING on the siren module. The siren beeps once. 3. Press any button on the remote transmitter. The siren beeps twice. 4. Replace the three screws securing the siren module's back cover. Repeat these steps for the additional remote transmitter. Note: Each remote transmitter has a different built-in security code. The new codes replace the old codes. SETTING THE MOTION SENSOR'S SENSITIVITY The alarm system's motion sensor detects vibrations. You can decrease the sensor's sensitivity by turning the control (under the back cover) counterclockwise so strong vibrations are required to set off the alarm. Or, you can increase the sensitivity so even slight vibrations sound the alarm. You must arm the system and push or rock the car to determine the sensitivity. The alarm sounds when you exceed the alarm's sensitivity. Disarm the alarm to silence it. Experiment with different settings until the alarm operates the way you want it to. TESTING THE SYSTEM Follow these steps to test the system. 1. Close all doors, the hood, and the trunk. 2. Turn off the vehicle's ignition. 3. Test your system using the procedures in "Operation." found in Faxback Doc. # 6564. Test the following: Automatic Arming and Disarming Remote Arming and Disarming Panel Alarm Exit and Entry Delays (br/all-07/12/94)
