Remote Control (490-0771) Operation Faxback Doc. # 6564 Alarm System TRIGGERING THE ALARM The alarm's siren is triggered in the following ways: When automatically armed, if a door is opened after the 30-second delay period, the alarm sounds after a 12-second entry delay. If a door is opened when the system was remotely armed, the alarm instantly sounds. If ARM and DISARM are pressed at the same time on the transmitter, the alarm instantly sounds. If the motion sensor detects vibrations, the siren sounds after 12 seconds if the system was automatically armed or sounds instantly if the system was remotely armed. The alarm sounds for 90 seconds or until you disarm the system. Note: If you have a cellular telephone, turn it off before you leave your vehicle. Otherwise, your alarm detects the power drain and sound the alarm. TURNING THE VALET FEATURE ON AND OFF The valet feature is normally off, so the system automatically arms when you leave the vehicle. However, you might not want the system to arm for valet parking or when you put it in a repair shop. To turn on the valet feature, press VALET on the remote transmitter. The siren beeps four times. The green indicator flashes slowly and the system does not automatically arm. To turn off the valet feature, press VALET on the remote transmitter again. The siren beeps twice. ARMING THE SYSTEM Automatic Arming If the valet feature is turned off, the system arms 30 seconds after you turn off the ignition and close all doors. The red indicator flashes rapidly during the exit delay, and lights steadily when the system arms. Remote Arming The transmitter has a maximum range of about 100 feet (3 meters). The range you get depends on your installation, the location of nearby metal objects, and the strength of the remote transmitter's battery. To arm the system from outside the vehicle, press ARM on the transmitter. The siren beeps once and the red indicator lights steadily to indicate that the system is armed. DISARMING THE SYSTEM The method for disarming the system depends on the method you used for arming it. Automatic Disarming If you open a door after automatic arming, the system begins a 12-second entry delay. During this delay, shut all doors and disarm the system in either of two ways: Turn on the ignition. Press DISARM on the transmitter with the ignition off. The siren beeps six times. Remote Disarming If you armed the system with the remote transmitter, you must disarm it from outside the vehicle (with all the doors closed) to avoid sounding the alarm. Press DISARM on the transmitter. The siren beeps twice. SOUNDING THE PANIC ALARM This feature lets you summon help in case of an emergency. To sound the panic alarm, press ARM and DISARM on the remote transmitter at the same time. The siren immediately sounds, regardless of whether the system is armed or disarmed. Note: The panic alarm does not sound when the ignition is turned on or set to the accessory (ACC) position.
