Hi-Performance Stereo (120-1944) Cassette Player Faxback Doc. # 6583 Cassette PLAYING A CASSETTE TAPE Note: Avoid using C-120 cassette tapes. They are thin and can easily become tangled in the playback mechanism. Follow these steps to play a cassette tape. 1. Turn on the vehicle's ignition. Then, turn VOLUME clockwise to turn on the stereo. 2. Take up any tape slack by turning the cassette's hub. Avoid touching the tape. 3. Load the cassette into the cassette compartment with its open edge to the right. The tape automatically plays and the tape direction indicator < or > lights. 4. If you use metal, Hi-Bias, or Type II tape, press MTL. MTL appears on the display. 5. Press Dolby noise reduction when you play tapes that were recorded with Dolby noise reduction. The Dolby NR symbol appears on the display. Press Dolby noise reduction so that Dolby noise reduction disappears from the display when you play a tape that was not recorded with Dolby noise reduction. 6. Press LOUDNESS to boost high and low frequencies at a low volume level. LOUD appears on the display. 7. Adjust VOLUME, BALANCE, BASS, TREBLE, and FADER to suit your listening preferences. 8. Press the << and >> PROG buttons at the same time to play the reverse side of a tape during playback. When the tape reaches the end, it automatically reverses the tape's direction and plays the reverse side. 9. To fast-forward the tape, press the PROG button whose arrows face the same direction as the tape direction indicator. 10. To rewind the tape, press the PROG button whose arrows face the opposite direction as the tape direction indicator. 11. To eject the tape, press EJECT button. USING ASMS Your stereo's ASMS (automatic search music system) lets you quickly locate the beginning of a selection on a tape. To activate ASMS, press ASMS. Then, press either << or >>. The tape rewinds or fast-forwards, stops at the next blank space before a selection, and begins playing the selection. Repeatedly press << or >> until you locate the desired selection. The automatic search music system might not work: * If the blank space between songs is less than 4 seconds. * If the overall recorded volume level on the tape is too low (such as with some classical music). * If the noise level between selections is very high or a hum has been recorded. Press ASMS again to stop the ASMS function. (LB/all-07/12/94)
