System 710 (130-1253) Operation Faxback Doc. # 6635 Follow these steps to operate your System 710. 1. Turn VOLUME to MIN. 2. Press POWER to turn on the System 710. The FUNCTION indicator, equalizer, and clock light. The tape PLAY indicators (< PLAY >) flash for 5 seconds and then light. The System 710 waits about 5 seconds before it turns on the speakers. This protects the speakers from signal spikes as the System 710 warms up. The VOLUME indicator lights when the speakers turn on. 3. Press FUNCTION (or INPUT on the remote control) to choose the audio source. 4. Start your desired audio source. 5. Adjust VOLUME to a comfortable listening level. 6. Adjust BALANCE as desired. AUTO-SELECTION The System 710 automatically plays a tape when you press < or > on the cassette deck when a tape is loaded, or plays a CD when you press PLAY/PAUSE on the CD player when a CD is loaded. The System 710 also automatically turns on and selects the tuner when you press a TUNER/CD-10 KEY on the remote control. Notes: When the System 710 is in CD mode, you cannot use the TUNER/CD- 10KEY to select radio stations, but you use it to select a CD track number. You cannot change functions during recording. USING THE REMOTE CONTROL To use the remote control, point it directly at the infrared sensor on the equalizer-tuner and firmly press the desired button. USING SURROUND-SOUND You can add rear speakers to enjoy a surround-sound effect from any program source. To use surround-sound, press in SURROUND. USING EXTENDED BASS You can increase the bass sound with two super bass settings. Press E- BASS once and SB-1 appears on the display. Press it again and SB-2 appears on the display. Press E-BASS again to cancel super bass. Note: SB-2 enhances bass sounds more than SB-1. USING HEADPHONES For private listening or to monitor while you record, you can connect low- impedance headphones (not supplied) with a 1/4-inch plug. To connect the headphones, turn down the volume. Then insert the headphone cord's plug into the System 710's PHONES jack. Note: Connecting headphones mutes the external speakers. Hearing Comfort and Your Health To protect your hearing, follow these guidelines when you use headphones. * Set the volume to the lowest setting before you begin listening. After you begin listening, adjust the volume to a comfortable level. * Do not listen at extremely high volume levels. Extended high-volume listening can lead to permanent hearing loss. * Once you set the volume, do not increased it. Over time, your ears adapt to the volume level, so a volume level that does not cause discomfort might still damage your hearing. (LB/all-07/11/94)
