System 710 (130-1253) Timer Faxback Doc. # 6640 Using The Timer The system 710 features three timer-controlled functions: timer recording, timer alarm and timer sleep. You can store two separate timer programs (recording and/or alarm) into PGM-1 and PGM-2. TIMER RECORDING For timer-controlled broadcast recording, two setting are available: ONCE and EVERY. Choose ONCE to record a broadcast once. Choose EVERY to record a broadcast every day at the same time. Make sure the System 710's clock is set correctly before using the timer- controlled functions. Timer recording takes two steps, setting the timer and activating the timer. Be sure you have loaded a blank tape or one that you want to record over into TAPE 2, and you have stored the station you want to record into one of the tuner's channels. SETTING TIMER RECORDING Follow these steps to set the timer. 1. Press MODE on the tuner. PGM-1 flashes on the display. 2. Press TUNING/EQUALIZER /\ or \/ to select PGM-1 or PGM-2. 3. Press SET MEMORY. REC flashes and the program indicator (1 or 2, as you selected in step 2) lights. 4. Press SET MEMORY. ONCE flashes. Press TUNING/EQUALIZER /\ or \/ to select EVERY or ONCE. 5. Press SET MEMORY. The ON time display appears and the hour flashes. Press TUNING/EQUALIZER /\ or \/ to set the hour of the start time. 6. Press SET MEMORY. Press TUNING/EQUALIZER /\ or \/ to set the start minutes. Notes: We recommend you set the start time 1 or 2 minutes earlier than the start of the desired program's scheduled start time. 7. Repeat Steps 5 and 6 to set the end time. 8. Press TUNING/EQUALIZER 40 select tuner, tape, or CD. 9. Press SET MEMORY. If you selected tuner, the channel indicator lights. Press TUNING/EQUALIZER /\ or \/ to select the channel that contains the station you want to record. 10. Press SET MEMORY. You can operate the System 710 as usual after you have set the timer. However, you must turn on the timer for the timer recording to work correctly. Note: When using the timer recording function, we recommend that you set the volume to minimum. This does not affect the recording level. SETTING THE TIMER ALARM Use the timer alarm to automatically start and stop a CD or tape or to turn a radio station on and off. You can choose ONCE to use the timer alarm one time or EVERY to use the timer alarm every day. Load a CD or tape, or set the desired radio station channel before setting the timer alarm. Note: Before you can use the timer alarm, you must set the timer alarm and turn on the timer. 1. Press MODE on the tuner. PGM-1 flashes on the display. 2. Press TUNING/EQUALIZER /\ or \/ to select PGM-1 or PGM-2, PGM-1, PGM- 2, SLEEP, and CLOCK appears in sequence as you repeatedly press the button. 3. Press SET MEMORY. REC flashes and the program indicator (1 or 2 as you selected in step 2) lights. 4. Press TUNING/EQUALIZER /\ or \/ to select WAKE. 5. Press SET MEMORY. ONCE flashes. Press TUNING/EQUALIZER /\ or \/ to select EVERY or ONCE. 6. Press SET MEMORY. The ON time display appears. Press TUNING/ EQUALIZER /\ or \/ to set the start time's hour. 7. Press SET MEMORY. Press TUNING/EQUALIZER /\ or \/ to set the start minutes. 8. Repeat Steps 6 and 7 to enter the end time. 9. Press SET MEMORY. Press TUNING/EQUALIZER /\ or \/ to select the source (CD, TAPE, or TUNER)> 10. Press SET MEMORY. If you selected TUNER, use TUNING/EQUALIZER /\ or \/ to select the channel that contains the station you want. Then press SET MEMORY. Note: When two timer programs overlap, the one that starts earlier has priority. TURNING ON THE TIMER After you store a timer recording program and/or timer alarm, follow these steps to turn on the timer. 1. Press IN/OUT until the desired timer program number appears on the display. If you stored programs into both PGM 1 and PGM 2, press IN/OUT until both program numbers (1 and 2) appear on the display. The program number with the earlier start time is underlined. 2. Press POWER to turn off the power. At the start time, the power turns on and recording begins or the timer alarm sounds. At the memorized end time, the System 710's power turns off. Note: If you do not turn power off, the timer does not function. CANCELING THE TIMER Turn on the power and press IN/OUT until the timer program indicator goes out. The stored information is retained but timer recording is not activated. To reactivate timer recording, press IN/OUT until the REC or WAKE and TIMER indicators light. USING THE SLEEP TIMER You can use the sleep timer to set the audio source to play for a desired amount of time, then automatically turn off. The sleep timer automatically turns off the power of all components. You can set the timer in 30 minute increments, from 1/2 hour to 2 hours from the present time. Notes: If you turn off the power before the timer reaches the end time, you cancel the sleep timer function. If a timer recording program overlaps a sleep timer function setting, the System 710 automatically turns off at the earliest end time. 1. Press MODE on the tuner. PGM-1 flashes on the display. 2. Press TUNING/EQUALIZER /\ or \/ to select SLEEP. 3. Press SET MEMORY. OFF flashes. 4. Press TUNING/EQUALIZER /\ or \/ to display the length of time you want. If you do not press TUNING/EQUALIZER /\ or \/ within 10 seconds, the turn off time is automatically set to the setting displayed. To turn off the sleep timer, select the OFF setting. 5. Press SET MEMORY to turn on the sleep timer. At the set time, the System 710 automatically turns off. CHECKING/CHARGING THE SLEEP TIMER Follow these steps to check or change the set sleep timer. 1. Press MODE on the tuner. PGM-1 flashes. 2. Press TUNING/EQUALIZER /\ or \/ until SLEEP appears. 3. Press SET MEMORY. The sleep timer's remaining time appears on the display. To change the time, use TUNING/EQUALIZER /\ or \/. 4. Press SET MEMORY. (LB/all-07/11/94)
