8-Track Auto Tape Player (120-1802) Maintenance Faxback Doc. # 6671 If the in-line fuse blows, replace it only with an identical 3-amp fuse. If it blows again, carefully check all electrical connections. After several playings, the tape head and handling surfaces will have a fine coating of tape oxide. This coating must be removed to prevent broken and mangled tapes. After every 25-30 hours of play we strongly recommend you use a head cleaning cartridge (catalog number 44-1161) or cotton swabs and a special head cleaning solution (catalog numbers 44-1093 and 44-1010). This will improve tape handling and frequency response while minimizing drop outs. To insure maximum frequency response, demagnetize the tape head after every 50 hours of play. A special device (catalog number 44-630) demagnetizes the head as it cleans the head and transport. Your unit should require very little major service if you follow these suggestions. Also, about once a year, a single drop of lightweight machine oil will assure that the capstan bearings are properly lubricated. For this, we recommend you bring your player to a Radio Shack store for preventive maintenance. BEFORE OPERATING: A. Slide the VOLUME control as far left as it will go. B. Center the TONE and BALANCE controls. (CJD/all-06/28/94)
