DMP-207 (260-2917) Setup Menu Options Faxback Doc. # 6679 The Setup Menu System is a unique feature for viewing, adjusting, and saving the printer's default settings. Our engineers chose this method instead of dip switches, allowing you to customize your printer from the control panel. Settings you make on the Setup menu are stored as a macro in the printer's permanent memory. (A macro is a complete set of printer settings that describes the entire printer default environment.) This macro remains in the printer's memory when you turn off the printer's power. Its settings are automatically restored when you turn the printer power back on. If your software sends commands that override the Setup (default) settings, you can restore the settings by sending the master reset command (Esc @) to the printer from your software. Turning the printer power off and on also resets the printer to its menu settings. CHANGING DEFAULT SETTINGS To enter the Setup menu, press the MENU key for 3 seconds while the printer is on line. (Be sure there is no data in the print buffer.) The DMP-207 prints the Setup Menu System instructions followed by the options in the first menu. It underlines the current setting in this menu, and awaits your instructions. Note: You'll find it easier to see the printed menus and the option that the printhead is pointing to if your remove the top cover. To use the Setup Menu System, move the automatic feeder levers forward to open the automatic sheet feeder. To change the current setting, press the SELECT key until the setting you want appears directly to the left of the printhead just above the ribbon. Then press the SET key to select the new setting. The printer fills in the new setting and advances to the next menu. If you are happy with the current setting, simply press the EXIT key. The printer retains the current setting, advances to the next menu, prints the next menu's options, underlines the current setting, and awaits your instructions again. Note: You can advance to the next menu without making changes by pressing the EXIT key--even if you have moved the printhead with the SELECT key. However, as soon as you select a new setting by pressing the SET key, that setting is stored in the printer's permanent memory. Continue through the menus until you have made all the changes you want. The printer automatically exits the Setup menu system when you press the EXIT key at the last menu. After you exit the Setup Menu System, move the automatic feeder levers back to close the automatic sheet feeder. The Setup Menu saves all the settings you selected with the SET key in the printer's memory. They become the printer's new default settings and take effect the next time you power up the printer. Note: Default settings are only read during power up. The old default settings remain in effect until you turn off the power. If you want to print with your new default settings, turn the printer power switch off and then on again. PRINTING DEFAULT SETTINGS The Setup Menu System allows you to print a report of the current default settings. The DMP-207 menus are printed down the page. The options within each menu are printed across the page with the current default setting underlined. To print the default report, turn on the printer power switch while simultaneously holding down the LF/FF and LOAD/PARK keys. SETUP MENU OPTIONS MENU DESCRIPTION Emulation Selects Epson LQ-570 commands or IBM Proprinter X24E commands. Be sure you select the same printer commands here as you have chosen in your software. When you set to Auto, the printer defaults to use the Epson mode. If it receives a print code that is unique to the IBM Proprinter X24E, the printer changes to the IBM mode. NOTE: If the printer does not receive a code that is unique to the IBM Proprinter X24E, it might stay in the Epson mode, even if your software is set to use the IBM mode. In this case, your printouts might be distorted. Font Selects Draft, Roman, Sans Serif, Courier, Prestige, or Script font. Pitch Selects 10 CPI, 12 CPI, 15 CPI, or Proportional pitch. Font Lock When on, font-selection commands sent by your software are ignored. the printer uses the font selected in the Setup menu. Line Spacing Selects 6 lines per inch (standard typewriter spacing) or 8 lines per inch. You can specify other spacing values with software commands. Form Length Selects 5-inch, 7-inch, Letter, A4, 12-inch, or Legal paper length. Page Skip Selects/cancels a bottom margin of one inch. Text Dir Selects bidirectional or unidirectional printing of text. Bidirectional prints faster; unidirectional prints with better quality. Graphic Dir Selects bidirectional or unidirectional printing of bit-image graphics. AGM Mode (IBM Selects/cancels AGM (Alternate Graphics Mode), which emulation only) allows IBM printers to properly interpret Epson graphics commands. Slash Zero Selects/cancels printing a slash through zeros so they are easily distinguished from the letter O. Character Set Selects among the character sets. International Selects among the foreign-language character sets Character Set (Epson emulation only) Character Set Selects between the IBM Character Set 1 and IBM Character Set 2. Code Page Selects among code pages, a method that DOS computers (IBM emulation only) use to display and print foreign-language characters. Tear Off Selects/cancels the automatic advance of continuous forms to the tear bar after printing. Auto CR Automatically returns the printhead to the left (IBM emulation only) margin after every line-feed command. Auto LF Automatically advances the paper one line after each carriage return command. Envelope Selects/cancels envelope mode, which should be used for printing envelopes. Language Sets formatting commands for the selected language. Demo Print Turns printing of the demo page on or off as follows: Off (will not print the demo page), Single (prints the demo page one time then goes off line--each time you set the printer on line it prints another demo page), and Repeat (prints the demo page continuously). To exit the Single or Repeat printing mode, press and hold MENU while the demo page is printing and set the Demo Print menu to off. The following is an example of a current "Default Setting Report" printed from the Tandy DMP207. This can be obtained by simultaneously holding down the LF/FF and LOAD/PARK keys while turning on the printer.
